Regarding laws and rules, that depends on your local laws, local laws of the destination state/country and terms of the shipping company that you use.
As far as the 'rules' within our hobby, it's appreciated to be honest and mention WC (wild caught) in any advert or classifieds post,
just to make sure that people won't mix them up with CB (captive bred).

In the US, other than some shipping rules, capture and sale of scorpions isn't moderated. I do know some sellers require a little paperwork for medically significant species (buthids in this case), but besides that it's pretty much you put some up for sale, people buy them, everyone's happy. No license needed. It doesn't hurt to write "Live animal" on the packaging, but I know plenty of people don't even do that.

This is because many postal workers and passerby (I have this from breeders who ship a lot and from a former postal worker), when bored, frustrated, etc., may abuse a package they suspect might contain something live, for whatever reason. Therefore, a bit of reverse psychology often gives the package a greater chance of making it through the postal system without issue.

I live in Perth where there are nine native species of scorpion specific to this region... and have never seen a single one!

Have you gone looking for them? And by that I mean gone looking in good places with proper habitats where the scorpions are known to be found.

Thanks,

If you were to collect on land which is overseen by the BLM there is a collecting permit requirement, in addition there would almost certainly something regarding sale of the collected material. In the past the BLM permit was free but that may have changed.

It is illegal to ship scorpions via USPS except for academic research.

Check your local laws to see if these species are legal to obtain.

Always advertise WC when selling. Not doing so is just dishonest and greedy. Bad for the hobby.

I live in a suburban area where there isn't the correct habitat to find them.

We can find all four examples almost anytime during the warm months here we are literally right in the center of the habitat

Slightly off topic but does anyone know if its illegal for Americans to ship their native species overseas? I know its illegal for them to order stuff from here in Europe but I'd pay a good amount to get my hands on some of the american species

Ay, I believe it is unless one acquires a (export?) permit(s), and goes through all the necessary legal matters. Now that I think about it though, if one were to able to get a good broker/shipper (such as Reptile Express; they export to the Hamm show twice every year usually), it wouldn't be too difficult so long as nothing was CITES-listed or otherwise protected.
I was actually considering the feasibility of sending some US-native millipedes to some people in Europe.

Thanks,

Arthroverts

P.S It isn't illegal per se to order arachnids (insects and other creatures are much more strictly regulated) from Europe, it's when someone does it without getting an import permit and an inspection of the package arranged with USFWS upon it's arrival that things start to become dicey.

ah, this explains why american sellers have been not very excited to try selling to me. My student visa is still viable for 2 more years, so perhaps i will come to US myself sometime and bring the species back myself!

One needs export permits and the receiver needs permits. To give you and idea, to make it worth the time and money for me to import Ts from Europe, the order has to be at least 2,000$ .

Otherwise you are smuggling and stuff is checked all the time.

I am not sure if that would be wise. I have noticed (from personal experience no less), that American international airport security seems to be more rigorous than European, and most definitely Asian, African, Pacific-region, etc. airport security. It would not bode well for one to get caught in such a way.

Thanks,
