Agreed, very male. This species is quite easy to sex by colour alone.

How, out of curiosity? I know juvie Borneo black males are brownish, and the juvie male violaceopes have the yellowish setae. However, I thought these were a bit less sexual dimorphic as juvies. (I have no experience with these - so I am wanting to know for future reference.)

No, these are 100% sexually dimorphic, I have a 1.5" specimen that is BRIGHT yellow/gold, unmistakeable, I'll share a picture when I get round to it.

Yes , but its not as dramatic. Much easier to sex nigerrimum than it is Borneo black.
I have a question for y'all that are more experienced about sexual diamorphism in L. violaceopes. Do they show as much as nigerrimum? I have a 3 in viola and in certain light it looks darker and then in other light it looks more brown. Unfortunately I do not have a picture of it, but I really just wanted to know when they really starting showing their colors?

I personally thought LV's couldn't be told apart until the males ultimate molt. They all have purple hews under light.

I'm almost 100% both of these are males.

First one is 2.5 inches

Second one is 3.5 inches

If that matters.

That is what I thought too, but I've also heard they are sexually diamorphic, so I'm just not sure. Mine is not even close to being that purple, so I'm thinking it is probably male. Thank you for sharing your pictures!
