Everything organic eventually spoils.

Theres plenty of resources online that show you how to maintain a mealworm/superworm colony.

You want me to google it for ya?

I hold them down and cut off their heads with a knife. With smaller crickets I just pull their heads off with tweezers. How else do you kill something quickly and with minimal pain?

I used to just crush the heads with my tongs, but I bent one squeezing too hard once and pinched my finger so that's out.

You can lay them flat and smash the head with a rock? I have a buddy who precisely crushes the heads with the end of a chopstick.

I'm curious what your murder style is.
Hmm, I squish heads because it leaves them paralyzed where they can’t go anywhere but still squirm because my ts won’t eat nothing dead.

Only seems the hungry ones of mine eat dead prey .
put it in a temporary tank I could not mix the substrate up yet because coco fiber isn’t dry enough. But it’s just until that other cage is safe maybe a few months ?

Seems like it. Possible less since the heat is here.
Yeah I definitely want to return it to that cage it really likes the cork bark ; I gotta find an affordable place to get more . These pet shops and many places charge a lot for it . Was easy to catch cup it this time (unlike last time,) and I wore gloves so no chance of being haired .

Yeah I’ll give it a shot the last 10 gal a worm escaped in is still sitting vacant haha 😂 never could find a worm dug all threw it multiple times. I gotta get a rock or something thwack these worms .. or just feed them to hungry Ts . Eventually roaches should take over feeding duties but I could be a year off for that .

Searched everywhere and no signs of the worm 🐛. So it’s either on the bottom or got eaten . Guess I’ll leave it vacant a few months I really don’t want kick up hairs by removing the sub . Now I gotta add more sub to I made it leveled ..
crickets & supers suck I’ll agree to that.

No, you just gotta do things right. ;)

Squishing heads is like day 1 beginner advice. C'mon now. I know you're better than that.

Yeah my bad I just have so few supers escape I usually don’t bother . Unfortunately the escapes were in giant 10 gallons not smaller tanks … :(
I know to crush them so they don’t burrow already, more wasted $$ a crippled worm Can’t run away .::

Yeah that's one I've heard before.

"The one time I didn't prekill my cricket it ate my molting sling!"

So what? You admitting to be complacent?

Tsk tsk tsk. :watchingyou:

Let's take this to PM.

The cheapest I ever found cork was 10lbs bulk at local orchid supply store. You could not select individual pieces. These were not rounds or flats but broken up chunks ranging in size and shape.

That was roughly $1.50 a piece I've seen it around $1.99 from "wholesale bulk virgin cork" <-- literally the website name

Bulk prices for whole rounds or flats is much higher. But for slings you don't need whole 20" pieces. You can buy a box of broken up pieces and they're usually 2-4"

The site I linked you has been the cheapest prices I've found online for small amounts that will allow you some freedom in selection. They have a policy that if you email them they might help you pick a piece you like. Feel free to shop around, and make sure to send me any good shops you find.

Some listings on Etsy and Ebay look good, but when probing further you realize the pics aren't what you're getting.

You're welcome

:watchingyou:
Did you click that link?

Here it is again

If you can't afford 1 piece of cork at $5.49 why do you need the link to bulk prices for o__o

Here is the link for anybody else interested

I had to edit my original post for typos and to be more clear about the type of cork/prices. It came out like I got 100 pounds for a buck a pound, but I meant 10, and it was chunks.

I wish I got it that cheap. Edited post above to reflect accurate prices.
