To everyone here who, quite frankly got their knickers in a twist. Most other sites gives you the spiders. You look at them, then there is a full page of paper with numbers according to the enclosure and its respective spider species. You dont have to keep guessing. Its a quick 5 minute brain-game with yourself to see if you can figure it out. Then ypu just look at what species you got. The diffrence is that its on a separate paper instead of the enclosures themselves. Everyone just take it easy and stop having a game of who has the most right to post on the forum. Its a society not a dictatorship. A person with 6 months of experience can have as much knowledge as one with 10 years of experience. Its all about how you spend the time during that period. Not necessarily the complete timeline. And i really appreciate everyone here who has stood up in the thread against the people who are almost trying to bully others. Makes me proud to be part of this community.

Also some companys may have diffrent ways of telling you the species if you asked for unlabeled but thats the most common solution ive seen! Keep us posted OP

I love when people debates about everything :)

I'd love to order a 'Mystery Box' myself, but personalized: 100+ juve/adult T's, only and I say only for mock the mailman (or mailwoman) that will deliver the parcel to me - and as a bonus excitement-funny note you should know, ordering T's online is illegal in Italy.

Me: 'Oh my parcel, finally! Do you (to the mailman/mailwoman) know what's inside, here? 100+spiders! Some of those are unknow, even not labelled, but all of those incredibly poisonous! :pompous:'

Mailman/woman: 'Ah ah Chris, you always cracks me up with your jokes! Sign here '

Ok people. Go to the website and do the research yourself. It is an option for experienced keepers to get sent Ts without them being labeled to increase the surprise I guess...no clue. I’m sure you can ask the vendor what they are as well if you can’t figure it out. The seller doesn’t just send the Ts this way.

Let’s have fun with this. I think it’s a great idea and can potentially have a great end result. Instead of assuming the seller is going to offload extra common not wanted Ts, why don’t we wait and see?? Why try and ruin something you have no idea or experience with?

This thread has taken a turn for the worse because people want to bash something for no reason. Your opinion is your opinion. If you have no experience with this particular vendors mystery boxes, then keep your opinion to yourself. If you don’t like mystery boxes then don’t buy one. The end!

Here’s the link for all of you naysayers...

Sure, I will gladly explain. Have you been to the site? If not you have misspoken. Know what your talking about. This option is for experienced only, says it plain as day. It is an OPTION, not mandatory so yeah I disagree with your comment. Maybe I want to get a box without labels watch them grow a bit, try to guess them, then contact vendor ask what species they are to see if I got them right. This tread is not a debate on what you agree with or disagree with, it is simply me ordering a mystery box and posting how awesome it is when I open it and see what all is in it.

Cheers!!
Silencing people is not what we do here. This is a discussion forum, not your personal site. You've had an account here for a month, new guy. I suggest you never tell people who have been here for years, many of whom support this site with money and have far more experience than you do to be silent again.

Some people are being skeptical of this idea, and for good reason. If you don't know what animal you have, a lot of negative things can happen.
I’m sorry for ruffling your feathers “King of Arachnoboards” (keyboard warrior).

You’re still missing the main point here. You are not paying attention to the fact that it is an option to have the Ts sent to you unlabeled for experienced keepers only! Again, I’d find it hard to believe that they wouldn’t be able to tell you what you got should you not know or want to know. Please do yourself a favor and follow the link with those angry fingers and look through the options. It seems pretty awesome compared to other offers I’ve seen like this around.

Your time here vs someone else’s lack there of doesn’t make your opinion or knowledge any more significant than the one who has been here less time. However if that’s what makes you feel good and powerful, then please continue on ELSEWHERE...oh and pay your way through because that makes you better too I guess??

If the OP had asked what your opinion was or asked for help on this topic then your opinion should be shared. Otherwise, your opinion and or help was not asked for, therefore you should be silent...lol.

Relax a little!
Who appointed you the arachnoboards police, boss man?

No one is silenced anyone. The problem is people commenting when they dont know what all is involved with the type of mystery box I purchased. Nothing should be ASSUMED with this box because you can cherry pick most of the details.

With that said I suggest you never ASSUME that someone’s experience level is determined by how long they have been a member on this forum. That is plain dumb because I know people that have over 20 years experience that haven’t joined yet, so if they do are you going to tell them you know more because you have been here longer. LOL.
Then don't do it.

They would be a very irresponsible business if they did not keep records of their transactions. And they would need to know what they send out in mystery orders just the same as "normal" orders to keep their inventory up to date. It isn't a mystery to the *seller*

Ease down there, Scrappy

1. You do not speak for me.

2. Pot calling the kettle black much? "I'm telling you what to do, and that is to not tell people what to do!"

Sincerely,
Someone with almost two decades of T experience who only discovered this forum one decade ago, who thinks unlabeled mystery boxes sound like a friggin ton of fun, and who now may just have to order one despite my hatred of vendors.
This got really ridiculous really fast. Why are people telling each other “keep silent” about the topic at hand?

It seems to me that a lot of people here are assuming something they haven’t confirmed at all, while accusing others of making assumptions. Yes I’ve read the website. It says nothing about them keeping a record of anything for you. I’m not sure why you’d assume that without confirming it with them. Keeping inventory and keeping a record of every email address tied to every mystery species for years or decades are very different things.

I’m also not sure why the disclaimer “for experienced keepers only” helps anything. How many threads are there here along the lines of “I’m a beginner but I’m starting with a Theraphosa.” I guarantee there will be beginners who click the box just because they want the excitement.

Finally I’ll point to the recent Poec regulations. The regulations very blatantly state that the hobby community can’t be trusted to keep species pure. With vendors selling totally unlabeled species I don’t blame them.

OP, if the mods don’t clean this thread up I think you should go ahead and make a new one when they arrive. You do deserve a clean thread about the fun of your mystery box. I certainly never expected this discussion to go so crazy, but I’m not opposed to commenting on the last 2 pages of comments either.

With that in mind, I hope they're not sending any unlabelled Poecilotheria . Sure, the chances of USFWS taking a look at the package might be slim, but that just seems a bit dicey.

Anyways, I can see the good and the bad sides of this mystery box thing. At the end of the day though, not my cup o tea.

Have fun with your new spider @jrh3.

I recently bought a £10 mystery box from Portsmouth tarantulas, despite being against the idea of them previously. I used to think I'd want to know exactly what I was getting, but I suppose that may have been down to having a smaller collection at the time.

I was pleased with the value for money, as I received four slings. Three species I hadn't kept before, and another I like. I received a B emilia (already have an AF), H gigas, C marshalli, and a D pentaloris.

I hope you're as equally pleased with yours, when it arrives.

You must have never run a business, or if you did... your bookkeeping was sorely lacking.

If you email a business to make a purchase, what SHOULD happen is they transfer your information to an invoice in their system. The invoice is updated when you pay for your order, and then again when the order is shipped out (and a copy of the invoice is oftentimes included for your records as well). If there is an issue with the order, all your information - who you are, what you ordered, etc - is in one easily accessible spot (invoices are also numbered usually) for the vendor to access so they can address your issue. The IRS recommends keeping all order information for at least 7 years in case you are audited and have to provide evidence of your claimed income amount.

Like I said before... The vendor SHOULD be keeping track of what is sent out in each mystery box just the same as any other order.

I cannot say for certain that these vendors are following the proper business protocol, but if they are... then you have at least 7 years to contact them if you cannot figure out what your mystery T is ;)

:wideyed: I apologize if I missed it the first time around, but what did you put as your keeping level? It's certainly a good deal, but they went all out with the OWs, especially considering I thought you put "Surprise me!" for the OW/NW part

I put surprise me on everything, i put less spiders more value, i also put p. Metallica and h. Pulchripes on my wish list. Plus i sent them a list of what i kept currently. It’s exactly what i needed to build my collection.

Okay, so then they had already known you had wanted some OWs. As for the keeping level part, unless my phone is weird, they don't have a surprise me option for the keeping level. Just beginner, intermediate, experienced, advanced, and help me decide. I suppose if I ever end up ordering a box, I'll just ask them for help deciding.

Well anyway, congrats on the new Ts, especially the ones on your wish list! :D

Oh yeah for that part i put experienced, i figured that would give me more chance to getting old worlds. I did tell them no Australian species though.
