Is that what I think it is? (Ryan Help Please)

I dont know how to start.. im excited but really i dont wanna get my hopes up for this. I started to breed her at around End of March then again another try on april and she's been receptive and all. she started to grow a rather large abdomen which is a good sign. since i have been reading threads on breeding reports i've read that when they're ready to lay their eggs they make a hammock like web on which they wrap the eggs on. soooo... is this it? its my first time and im rather pumped about this.. its only a G.Rosea by the way. its my first try and im rather pleased. inputs are most welcome..

It appears that could be what is going on! Good luck I hope everything goes well! Try not to bother her anymore. She is going to be sensitive to everything as a new mother.

Hi Ryan... you of all people i have hoped to answer my thread.. anything to point out or tips? i need all i can get.

1. Do I have to feed her on the duration of her guarding the sack?
2. Do I leave the sack with her till she hatches out the slings?
3. do I just leave it alone for 30days?
4. When can i take a peek at her? is it okay to check her out everyday?
5. What other things do i need to know?

Sorry I'm really just a newbie when it comes to breeding.

Guys all inputs are greatly appreciated! help is much needed. :) :) :)

Hi,
Sure does look like it's a sac in the making. Hope it is. I have a rosea in that same condition but no hammock yet. I'll try to answer a few of your questions but will say up front that none of the answers are set in stone. We all have our different ways of doing things.

1. feeding. No you do not need to keep feeding her while she is "with sac." :) Some females stay hidden during this time anyway.

2. Leaving with sac with her. There are many different ways to do this. I know people who are counting on a monetary profit will almost always pull the sac after about 4 weeks and incubate them. I prefer to allow my T's to have a stress-free "natural" breeding experience. There could be more chance of a mishap but when weighed against the stress to the female T for stealing away her babies, I let mine carry on.

3. Your choice as in #2. People can make mistakes with incubating, spiders usually don't. In the dry environment with roses there is not much chance of mites.

4. As tempting as it is to watch over her the less, the better. Roses, like mother rabbits, have been known to eat their own egg sac in extreme stress situations. Checking once in a while, water dish, etc. is fine, just don't hover.

5. The mother T knows what to do, let her be and trust her.....
and, good luck!!!

I have an eggsac! woot! i plan to just leave it with the mom. i put on a big black cloth over the enclosure, left wer with a waterdish and i plan on leaving her alone till 30 days has passed hoping there wouldnt be any problems. I dont even plan on peeking everyday just to make sure she wouldnt eat it.

Congratulations! I have a female G. rosea myself that is starting to get some serious junk in the trunk, so hopefully in another month or so I'll be seeing what you've just seen :D

Keep us updated on the little ones.

How moist is the tank?

I would be inclined, if possible to get the female into a new, BONE DRY tank asap. Mites cannot be a good thing.

I would be inclined to take the sac, brush off the mites with a paint brush or something similar, move the female to a sterile setup, and then give her eggs back. Sounds extreme, but those mites if unchecked are going to explode in population and destroy the sac.
Additionally because it took only around two months for this girl to make a sac, that could mean things were bad from the start. But I hope not.

The tank is not moist its bone dry.. i just left a water dish there for her. what do you guys think happened? i dont wanna lose this egg. is it possible that the eggs are already destroyed? or is it possible that the eggs are still intact?

The only time I have had mites on a sac like that, the sac was bad already.
Does the sac seem to be fluffy and still white?

That is a good sign. There is still a chance that it could be bad, but in my experience mothers eat or ditch bad egg sacs.
How is the mite situation going?

well... you know mites that are found in uneaten foods or cricket carcasses? those kind of mites.. those that dwell on dead crickets. little round mites. i can still see them but whats strange is that they're all staying on one side and only a clump. my substrate is dry so how come i have them? im still observing if the mom would eat or ditch the egg but so far its still with her. its the 6th day since she laid the sac. its driving me crazy.. :?
