Besides arming you with education you can relay to her-No, no one else from an internet forum can convince your Mom to let you have one.

My suggestion would be to arm yourself with knowledge and present this to her. A tarantula can be a wonderful pet and perhaps you can expose some myths she may be clinging to.

yeah, tell her that my brother is creepy too, but I love him anyway so she can learn to love creepy things just like I did.:)

lol....I had to do this with my mom. I guess you can tell her it will never ever get out and the rose haired is the most docile sp. Thats what I did but I dunno if it will work for yours :?

I had to convince my mom too. Now I have 6! :D Just don't whine and nag her about it, usually that brings a definite NO from parents.

My suggestion is to go out in your backyard and find a bug... any bug. Make an enclosure for it and take care of it. Learn about it and then tell your mom what you have learned-don't ask for a spider just yet. OK, now

after a little time has pasted, go out and do it again. What you are doing is: 1. showing her you are responsible. 2. showing her your learning about the world around you. 3. You have to break down the fear factor slowly. If you can get this far eventually it will happen. Good luck.

I can upload you a video of me holding my Rosie or B. Smithi. Maybe that will convince her. They are almost completely harmless minus the whole fang thing. And if it does get out it will only travel about six inches before stopping and chillin.

I checked your profile and it says you have some "creepy crawlies." :? Maybe your mom just thinks you have enough already?

I had to go through the same exact thing. My mom finally gave in now I can have as many as I want:D My mom thought that I would just get a ton then forget about them and she woud have to take care of them and she also thought that I would get hundreds and my room would be overrun with them. All I did was state my reasons and then I was free to get as many as I want. Just remember that if you get one you will end up with alot.

You may have to wait until you move out and get your own place...at that point you'll probably own 100 Ts. There was a slogan that went something like: "Your mother said no, you're grown up, now no one can stop you..."

Some people have serious arachnophobia and no amount of talk from their kids is going to change that. If its just a minor objection here are some selling points:

1. A rosie is cheap to buy and maintain.

2. You can get a cheap enclosure that is escape proof.

3. You understand the hair flicking is more dangerous than the bite, and you know not to get the hairs in your eyes.

4. Throw in something to sweeten the deal: keeping your room clean, mowing the lawn, throwing out the trash, you know what your mom would love for you to do or do better...use it!

Good Luck! :D

Why not ask you're mom to do some research with you? It has worked for my wife, and now I have 20 T's and gonna get more! Heck, her b-day is on Wednesday and she asked for a B. albopilosum for a gift.......... so it'll be here tomorrow!

I like this. Kinda reminds me of being a kid, same kinda deal. My mom was thankful to have me out exploring/learning than just sitting playing video games all day.

I dunno, i kinda got lucky. My dad brought me home a T a loooonnnggg time ago from calabasas (sp?) so he kinda broke the ice wth my mom for me hahah.

I tell you what though, keeping a visually pleasing terrarium has really been what helped relax my mom to the whole thing.
