Although I can't say 100% for sure how I'd act in that situation, I'm willing to go as far as saying I'd get bit before I killed one of my Ts.

This is exactly the reason why I don't own any aggressive/highly defensive species yet - I don't trust myself to be able to handle them appropriately. (Although I swear my B. smithi is half Stromatopelma the way it acts.)

I never ever said I was trying to tame a spider. I never ever said I wanted to handle a T if I did it might be a Grammostola but thats about it. I do know what its like to own a T just not an aggressive one. I had a list of some top spiders I wanted to own.

T Blondi
A Geniculata
B Smithi
H Lividium
P Murinus
Syngapore blue

Because of this experience that list is gone. I will not own any spider on that list except for a smithi. Its not as if I can't manage a beginner T I am just not ready for an aggressive one. Obviously you didn't read my posts Novak.

Am I the only one here getting REALLY angry? Wouldn't she have thought to say she was allergic to wasps in the original-excuse-post? Why did you give it 1 hour to chill? That never works I'm surprised it didn't stress to death then. What is the other T you own, anyways? And FINALLY HOW DID YOU KILL IT? I am extremely intrested in how you killed it if you couldn't move the bowl and it was too quick for you to pick up the bowl. If it was calm enough for you to peek and see it was still being aggressive than how come you couldn't have flipped the thing in the bowl and throw it in the cage?

I'm guessing he used the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. It's suggested use is for killer rabbits but it SHOULD work on a cobalt also.

Well, most of us thinks it's a hoax, a piece of troll work. Therefor we sit back and enjoy the ride. Exactly like the troll does ;)

On a serious note, I've owned three adult female Lividums and never seen the fuzz. I've also got about 10 Pterinochilus and they are as kind as teddy bears. Sure, some of them falls on their back fangs in the air but what about it? Doesn't pose any threat to me, does it? Now I have 3 big H. Minax juvies, and they are calm campers too.

And the other 35 T's that I haven't mentioned have my respect, but.... Makes me think 80% of the posters are hysterical nuerotics

I find it really amusing, disgusting, and troll-like that every time I look down the page to see who's viewing this thread idiotnewb's name is down there watching our reactions.

Well its a fairly predictable animal in my mind.

Sounds like a troll tho, no one I know would have vented a story like that on here.

The only troll on this page is you boa. If you don't believe me that is fine I don't care. Call me a liar and leave I don't care. If you don't believe me why are you posting so much? It is because you are a troll. You have nothing to say that is either insightful or worth typing. I have told my experience to this group because my best friend hates tarantulas and when I told him he said he would have volunteered to kill it for me. I have nobody to talk to about my experience. If at least one person who was considering buying a cobalt and wasn't ready for it reads this and decides to wait, then it was worth telling the group. I don't hide behind my shame I learn from my mistakes. Maybe I'm the only person in the world this has ever happened to, but I doubt it. Its because of people like you that I post anonymously, you have no idea what I was feeling at the time. Instead you try to pick apart my story and find ways to discredit me. If it makes you sick then leave but if you stay you only prove you are a troll.

I would be satisfied and leave this thread right now if you answer my questions. Very simple questions that anyone telling the truth and that was really there would be able to answer.

Wow.

Well, where to begin? This is really a horrible event, one that could have very easily been avoided. I do not know the legitimacy of the event, as I too was perplexed by how you managed to kill it. Must've been rather inventive because by your story I wouldn't think you'd have the courage to poke it with a stick. I may be wrong, but if it was a more inventive way I wish you would have exercised that creative ability earlier. How could you be in a way ignorant of sliding a piece of paper or something similar under the bowl?

Regardless, I don't see this as an opportunity to place blame or guilt but more so an opportunity to express what I find to be neglected but fundamental aspects of keeping any animal in hopes to help others who may chance on this thread. I do not think that this event or a similar one should deter anyone from respectfully and appreciatively keeping tarantulas or any other species of animal.

First, before even comprehending adding another organism, albeit how predictable, you need to know yourself. Not in the metaphysical sense but simply HOW would you be fulfilling the needs of this animal. I see no reason for any animal kept in captivity to be neglected. You have purchased, and thus taken, the responsibility of this animal's life.

What possible events could occur and how will YOU react to them? In this situation you have FULL knowledge of what you are dealing with. You KNOW you are transferring an aggressive tarantula. You know the risks involved regarding your condition. ALL of this should have facilitated SOME sort of forethought as to what could happen if things went wrong. This however demonstrates CLEARLY why a keeper should have knowledge of themselves and their reactions and, understandably, take precautions in which to prevent things from going wrong.

Simply think. Take into consideration the possibilities that are infront of you when you take on this sort of responsibility. Develope your own or simply ask of ways in which deal with certain situations. If this, imo small, requirement is given due attention then really you can potentially keep anything you want. You just have to apply everything to practice, that is an art in it's own.

Also, know the animal. A (hopefully adequate) housing that has been provided for a tarantula for instance is vastly different than the housing you have provided for yourself. This difference is undeniable. As such, you really can't have expectations of how your T may behave. With this in mind, you really have to ask yourself if being contained within a presumably small bowl on a carpet/vinyl/hardwood floor is going to calm a T down? If you can even calm a T down. That's a whole other subject.

In most of the organisms I'm aware of routine behaviors are interrupted by sudden, significant, introductions of "new" or "different" stimuli. So even if your T doesn't move much when it's in it's cage or little container from the pet store, it doesn't mean it won't in your house, or when you open the container, or any other change in it's surroundings.

Know yourself, know the animal. Basic. With the internet and message boards like these you can pool such a vast amount of knowledge in such a short time that if you're posting on these boards you really have to ask yourself what your excuse is for not being prepared in events like this.

True or not, any animal dying in such a manner is terrible. Cuz I'm enjoying my newly added Cobalt Blue thoroughly it seems to suck a little more. Here's hoping the story's not true.
