Sweet. I'll definitely keep another one or two. They don't take up much space especially, as you said, if I stack em. How long should I wait to feed her again? She is pretty fat right now, she spent the last 24 hours sucking the juices out of a cricket that was bigger than she was.

Just go by abdomen size. When it drops down to half the size as now, then its feeding time. They require very little care. Which is why they thrive so well.

After reading through some of your site, maybe the other larger spiders were L. variolus. Two others in the same back yard were considerably larger than she.

No disrespect intended, but what's with people who want to keep critters that could kill them? Seems like a Darwin Award waiting to happen lol

No disrespect taken. But in my opinion, people drive cars, drink alcohol, that could kill a person way faster than any venomous creature. People also raise children that can grow up and kill them too. You just have to look at it differently. If you are sure it cant get out, and you know what you are doing, then you are ok.

Fait enough. I wouldn't consider myself a "lucky" man, so I'll pass on the dangerously venomous species, myself. I will say, though, they are pretty spiders.

*not saying you should pick up and play with venomous critters, just saying they are not as bad as everyone perceives them to be... they are quite docile, a few members have posted pics / vids of them handling widows.

It's pretty unlikely that a healthy adult would actually die from a black widow bite, but it could make you pretty sick. In many ways, pet dogs are much more dangerous. However, I don't keep any medically significant spiders. I prefer not to worry about what would happen if one of my spiders bit me.

P.S. It's nice to find another Legacy of Kain fan! (I recognize the tattoo.)

I have a black widow tattooed on the back of my left shoulder. I want one, but I have no clue how to obtain one that is CB and do not want to risk just catching a wild female who may have an eggsac. That is a difficult thing for me because I don't like killing anything, let alone a whole egg sac, but on the other hand baby widows grow parachutes and I dont want a house full of widows >.<

I don't plan on handling her and I did do my research before hunting for her. Potentially fatal for children, elderly and the extremely ill, I am none of these. Plus, I'm extremely careful with her. She can get going pretty fast and when I open the top she occasionally will charge towards the exit. I don't open the top often lol. She usually just stays where she is though so far. I'm not risking anything or taking any chances. She is very attractive and after conversing with people who own them I felt comfortable enough about caring for them. I just want to keep it alive!!

Honestly, I would just flush the egg sac. I understand not wanting to kill anything but you got to do what you got to do. The three females I found were going to get sprayed anyway so I was able to save one. They all had males around too. Honestly, if my garage was full of them, I would have to spray too. They're dangerous and should be respected but I do have to protect my own.

I'm thinking of just admiring them from pictures on the internet until I can find someone to sell me one that they can tell me for sure isn't gravid.

I do not promote hunting for them :). People do sell them though occasionally. I'm glad I got her. She's really cool to look at and so far she's eaten once. She spent 24 hours sucking it dry! It wasn't easy catching her either. I've seen video of people just doing a cup and cap catch but she was underneath the last beam on the bottom of the fence. She came back out after 3 failed attempts which is the only reason I have her.
