On USDA permits, I have read that fluon is not an approved method for containing some ant species. I guess some species have some way to remove it faster?
Well these jerks found out how to bypass it in a few hours on their 3rd night they stuck all the maple syrup dirt to it so they could walk over it XD i literally just relocated them today they live in a plant pot on my kitchen bench

There's a reason ants are so successful. If they were any bigger, they might rule the world.

If they were any bigger
Then their respiratory system would collapse and their nervous system would be unable to coordinate the body properly.

At the moment they are as successful as they can possibly be with their limited but incredible body.

Long live the vertebrates

shame i went on hiatus, this is a topic i actually could have helped with but sounds like you have it under control. just a note that certain species will go "dormant" in winter and no new brood or workers will be produced and there will be much less activity although this might not apply here.

also, has you Australobuthus arrived yet? post some pics

a shame, i could upload pics but have a rather terrible camera. I don't pick favorites but my australobuthus is one of my fav scorps, always out, big eyes, powerful tail which is a wonder to see in action, semi docile demeanor, beautiful coloring and you can see why i love this species so much i just wish it wasn't so rare that i could have gotten it sooner. i love it almost as much as my 2 liocheles karschii, retinaser and spazmatism. i still need to pick a name though.

bushfires are a real pain, if it werent for them i would have my pq113 and strenuus by now..

also im REALLY tempted to get a kotzman but i dont have much experience with T's. but i am so tempted

@Ftang5, what?!? Your saying you aren't on Arachnoboards 24/7/365?? I'm disappointed in you...

:D:rofl:, just kidding. Good to see you on the boards again.

@RezonantVoid, can't you just post the image in a thread? It won't have the same distribution as a gallery upload but still...

Thanks,

Gorgeous, mine is a little lighter in color, but those eyes, those damn eyes are what gets me, its like its a puppy with a stinger, those massive eyes.

Also ive read that they actually dont like the feeling of sand so you have to provide a rock and a pile of leaf litter for them to rest on. Also i had to transfer mine as the enclosure i prepared was too small considering how much surface exploration they do.

Also arthroverts you can blame my hiatus on telstra, pay for 40mbps and on a good day i get 5mbps...

Mine is housed temporarily on 50:50 sand and cocopeat mix with area completely sand. Its loving it, and has literally chosen to dig under its rock in the sandy part. Has eaten twice so far.

But staying on the topic of ants, its amazing this colony of Nigriceps just does a massive sweep of the kitchen bench, gathers any crumbs and returns in the morning. Dont know why i didn't think of this earlier

That is an awesome looking scorp! Kinda looks like some of our US desert species but much glossier. And yes, the eyes are pretty cool-looking.
Huh. And the ants don't try and get into stuff in the house or bother any of the plants? Sounds almost like a more efficient (not to mention downright cooler) Roomba vacuum...

@Ftang5, you are pardoned *places tongs over shoulder*. You may rise...
;):D:rofl:.

They are typical Buthids other than that they live on a salt lake, so theres probably alot of simularitues between them and the species available in the US. However, i have waited since i was a flipping 8 yr old to get my hands on one so its pretty cool to see this thing in the flesh

There werent as many nigriceps on the bench last night so i might leave out a syrup tray. Our house's frame is solid hardwood so they arent getting through that anytime soon

you and me both rez, ive wanted a salty ever since i got gifted my first elongatus way back when i was 13. i was so upset when i missed the time where they were readily available for like a month 3 years back but in the end, ive finally got one and it was worth the wait.

Honestly its hardly my colony anymore, they've reclaimed their freedom. However, they still tirelessly patrol the kitchen every night. Tomorrow i will try and and get some photos of the majors and workers out and about
I also realised i accidentally aquired an ant colony, living in the substrate of my nepenthes veitchii x burbidgea although nothing flashy, just some pheidole.
