one "problem" with taxonomy is that is changes. usually ppl are trying to figure out what the real truth of the situation is, but sometimes politics and like, hubris come into play. but species can be described one year and some how invalidated the next. and then revalidated 73 years later. it's hectic =P
Actually, taxonomic instability should be expected. As all taxa are explanatory hypotheses, they are always fallible constructs. Unfortunately, too many professional systematists think we should strive for nomenclatural stability. That, however, is wholly at odds with the way science operates. Name stability is just an unfortunate carryover from pre-evolutionary times.

oh fully. that's why it's a "problem" and not a problem. it just means you can never assume what was reasonably "true" today is going to stay that way. due diligence, yo

when someone decides they have the one and onliest truth of the way the world that is *is*... well, they should probably start a religion and go hang out with the rest of their ilk hehehehehehe

edit: in a very real sense it is great. it means, like, the map in your brain is constantly getting closer to how the terrain really is :D

And I'll add what I've said in many of these are-hybrids-ok? threads - there are no biological/ethical reasons to argue against the existence of hybrids in the hobby. Argue for accurate labeling.

I would actually vouch for hybridization in the hobby, the genetic variation and possibilities are quite intriguing. The only problem is not everyone in this hobby has the responsibility to properly label their stock, therfore I am completely against it.

You have those people that are serious about this hobby and its future, and then the there is the passerby group, who care not what happens to the hobby or where it will end up as consequence of their actions.

THAT is why i wish ppl would learn how to key out their material themselves. right now most accidental hybrids would be under the radar

As others have said, this topic has been beaten to a bloody pulp. There hasn't even been a length of time where there has been many changes in the "things that we do not speak of." {D (Yeah, I've been watching M. Night Shyamalan movies)

you know what though? pretty much most of the threads i have seen about hybrids are just stupid. no one knows what they are talking about and it's a lot of bandwagon parrot talk

pretty much every one i join starts to get interesting. like this one. Kirk has brought some very interesting points to the table

My friend drives a Prius. It gets great gas mileage but is kinda slow. I prefer my purebred Civic Si.

For the record...

I didn't realize that this would be such a "touchy" subject at first, but now I understand why. The only reason that I inquired about the topic is because until very recently, I was unaware that people cross breed some species and actually sell the offspring to the public.

I'm a breeder of Grand Champion bloodline American Pitbull Terriers....although mammals and arachnids are totally different....I prefer my animals...no matter what species it is....from dogs to spiders... to be pure and true-to-form.....so I'm in favor of not cross breeding...and I'm not bashing those that do....it's just my personal preference not to. Thanx for all the feedback.

Heh. This turned out to be the most civilized hybrid discussion that I've seen on here. =)
