If it were a race, the melons are losing.
But we're running into summer so the heat is on.

They'll get there. I'm sad I didn't end up doing any gourds or beans this year in contemplation of moving. Also, I have been scouring people's yards for any daturas, I'm not sure that's something people have here. I want to try them out but not until I have an actual yard.

Your melons are just starting to run.

I did one hill of summer and winter squash.
So far, so good.

Don't worry about a yard for datura.
They're as happy in a container as they are a crack in your sidewalk. I put some inoxia and single bloom black metels in the ground but stramonium is a literal weed.

Planted out a ton of giant teddy bears with slug traps and collars. None of them made it. Fortunately, my daughter feeds birds so there are always volunteers.

Talk of my melons running goes in a different thread!

They're definitely coming along, I hope they do good for you.

I have a few varieties in my "cart" for next year, including the purple ballerina one, but it's way too late to start from seed, yes? Next year though.

Teddy bears are news to me. Laugh at me if you want, but best I could find is they are like a fluffy sunflower?

Hey now, don't back out on me.
Playing with the sugar babies was your idea.

It might be a little late. When you do go to start them, start early and treat em like peppers.

I think they were called Sungolds.
Look like giant dandelion.
Turns out, I have a single one on the side of the house.
If the dogs don't piss on it too much, we'll see.

Other than that, there's garlic in the ground for next year and some beets and stuff waiting out there.
We wrapping up.

We've got a fence. They have amazing jumping abilities. To put up a deer-proof barrier would be more work than I'm willing to put into it. ;)
Spicy peppers and lemongrass keep them away quite effectively. I plant them in the community garden and everything is untouched. Gotta keep your eyes on the birds though, they love peppers.

Peanut plant (thanks squirrel!) No peanuts under there, but the roots smell like basil.

I didn't plant a single thing this year sad to say seeing this thread just now really makes me think about it too. Lol I just didn't feel like messing with it . Burnt out from growing so many tomatoes heirloom varieties like old German Brandywine ect ect..

And for not listening to my older sister and went ahead and planted a whole flat of cucumbers. Yeah when they took off it was Way to many. I'm sure somewhere in that mess was a world record sized cucumber I had missed.

How'd I miss this thread?

Started sharecropping late August. Haven't really planted much, mostly preparing the land, starting compost piles, building trellis frames and getting ready.

Test crop of dưa gang.

Looking forward to the spring.
