Great stuff! All 34 pages that I just read!

Wouldn't mind seeing more of the rosy and how it's colors have progressed from the Rose to the bright red to the lighter colors...:D

Nice antinous! Very black. How is she/he?
Thanks. She's doing rather well, I guess. Might be time for a rehouse/tank cleaning; she's chewed a lot of the background off.

Awesome fimbriatus, Hobo!
Thanks. Really glad I happened to get her.

Well she's eating still, and this coming november will be three years since her last molt. She's looking a bit lighter, but nowhere near as tan as she was when I first got her.

The robustum is so cute haha. Nice P. antinous!
Thanks! I will go ahead and agree with you.

Anyway, the male B. smithi molted again, after nearly a year. He's probably a good 3" now, or at least very close.

P. lugardi, lookin' pretty.

And I started pairing the M. robustum this weekend! Getting him in the deli is tough; They like to spread out as much as possible when threatened.

First pairing, I accidentally spooked him right into her burrow.

She freaked out, he jumped out, turned around, and started drumming:

It looks like he caught her off guard as she was in threat/intimidate mode the whole time. It also looks like he bit him a couple of times, but he's alright. He didn't get the hint until the second strike. It's nice to have a male with the bulbs to get 'er done!

Second pairing was much more promising. This time, I did it reverse Zonday style and made sure to exhale away from the tarantula.
He found her burrow on his own and drummed for quite a while outside it. Then she went out to meet him as he backed out onto more even ground. Not sure if he was able to get any inserts before she kinda fell over, but it looks like he did judging from her abdomen movements towards the end. Maybe that's what made her fall over! Gonna try and look from the side next time, hopefully.

That's very nice....definitely retained the darker/vibrance of the last most compared to the tan/rosy colors she had. 3 full years soon huh? That's quite the while...What size would you say she is now? Mine is just about 4.75"~ish at the moment. She was wild caught so I have no idea is she has anything left in her...but I can hope right? lol

Thanks for the pics man...they are beautiful and your collection makes me jealous. ^_^

LOL not how is she/he ... It should say how BIG is she/he :) My bad hehe
Well, her last molt was about 8" across, so Probably 8". She didn't look like she'd grown at all.

She is 5" right now. I'm guessing she is really old:)

Thanks for the sub. It looks like she did, but she didn't, or at least didn't do any damage.

Beautiful smithi and lugardi! Great collection!
Thanks!

Third pairing, probably the best so far.

Oh man, it's been a while.

Female B. smith imolted, and looks like she didn't grow at all. That male is steadily catching up!

Post molt stretching. Not a deathcurl, I promise!

Speaking of males, that male N. chromatus molted.
Just a couple of weeks ago:

And after I got back from vacation.

There are two little nubs there, but can't get close enough for 'em to show up in a pic.

The P. ultramarinus also molted while I was away. She didn't grow at all either.

I stole her molt before she could screw it up too.

Beautiful smithi! That P. ultramarisu goes to show that their coloration differs quite some from specimen to specimen...

Yup she's a looker. I think the color difference is just because of my gratuitous use of the flash to hide my camera skills! Oh wait, that does the opposite, doesn't it...

Anyway!

More molts!

So the B. emilia molted, and is looking pretty much like it should.

The rosea sling I got from Levi molted too (I think. I sometimes forget I own the thing!).
It's still barely .75" and I've had it nearly a year and through three molts.

And, the L. difficilis molted! This thing ate maybe 15 things the entire year it's been in my possesion.
I had to peel it's carapace and top of the abdomen off because of it's funky pedicel (see here) but it's otherwise just fine.

And without the molt stuck on it

Hopefully she'll have a change of appetite.

Here's the latest pairing of the M. robustum. It's the fifth and most likely the last time they will be pairied.
Watch in 1080p for maximum palp on furrow action!

They went their seperate ways after the matings, with the female looking a little lost.
"This isn't my burrow...."

She has been getting bigger though, and she hasn't eaten in a couple of weeks... hmm....
Here's hoping I start seeign that abdomen round out a bit :)

As already said on YT, best of luck on getting a viable sac from her! From what I understand, those are not that common in the US, right?

And you obviously do a great job on helping your T's molt, first the GBB, not the LD...awesome work!

Well. I just spent the last two days going through this thread from start to finish. I think its my favorite. Because not only are the pictures really nice, but it chronicled the lives of all your spiders since like 2010, and I now feel like I know them personally! Its very well done. I feel like I just read a good book.

Thanks man!

I've no idea about the US, but they don't seem to be that common here in Canada from what I've seen. Either that or they're unpopular, but that's just crazy.
Nothing fancy was done with this one actually, I just grabbed the end and peeled it off.

Thanks! Don't spoil the end, I'm not all the way through yet!

So anyway, had a couple of crazy molts in the past two days. First, I seen an exuvium chucked out by my female P. metallica (who I never see). So I go to retrieve it, and realize it had an actual leg sticking out of it.

Yup, she had failed to molt out the leg that got gimped from her last molt. It looks like she got it out a bit, then either popped off mid molt, or plucked it out herself after she was done. I actually pulled it out of the molt afterwards; it seemed it was stuck in the bend. It also didn't look like it had formed properly underneath, so maybe it was a blessing in disguise. I checked on her, dribbled some water down her burrow, and she seems perfectly fine otherwise. At least she's alive, nothing else matters.
Of course, this may throw a serious wrench into my planned breeding of these guys, considering my male should be maturing soon, and I would think a female with a missing limb would opt to molt quickly to regrow lost limbs than to brood a sac... speaking of my male...

A day later, I see him like this.

Could this be his maturing molt?
Well, I can tell you, it might have been, just not in the way I was expecting.

Hold on, what's that little red spot I see there?

...Oh... no...

So yup, it has spermathecae. I pulled them, flipped 'em around (the right lobe is folded in on itself and won't straighten out; it's not smaller than the other) and made sure they were connected so I know they are really there and not made of magic. I know a few of you who've been waiting for this "guy" won't be too happy with the news, myself included!
This one's been screwing with me. I've actually been suspecting this for some time, as it had been appearing less male ventrally (and dorsally) with each molt, and the experience of sexing other species I've aquired since then made me realize I may have been confusing regular epigynal plate hair with epiandrous fusillae. As for never seeing them before this, I just never have. I have two of his previous molts still, so I'll be looking over those to to see if I can find them. Maybe they've finally just sclerotized in this molt? I don't know. Maybe it's still screwing with me!

A strange thing to note is that the "male's" molt is identical in size to my females first molt under my care, yet her spermathecae are very large and obvious in comparison (you can see a shot in the above linked post).
Maybe if I pretend these are just male accessory organs, it'll hook out next molt...

oh dear! That's no good for breeding, (maybe they'll be lesbians and adopt foreign slings together though) but at least you have two beautiful pets that will be living a much longer time than anticipated....silver lining?

You sure have some Ts that have problems molting without problems, Hobo...weird. Here's hoping that metallica -will- hook out (although after seeing that skin...I'd doubt it highly) :D

Don't get me wrong, I'm disappointed, but I'm still smiling. I just need to track down another male.

Well, two, to be fair.
The GBB and the P. metallica.
The L. difficilis had the same issue when it molted before I aquired it, so maybe it's just special. It has some kind of wonky pedicel, that causes the molt to always stick to it. You can see a tiny bit of the molt still stuck to it in the link I supplied in an earlier post. She also barely ate. It's a strange one, to be sure.
