She's skinny because she's newly wild-caught. I'd just bought her at a reptile show, which is why I was able to get a picture of her. Otherwise, I would have had to dig her up, and chances are she would have been much less agreeable about posing for me. As far as petting their legs, no, I don't know that I've ever petted any of them per se, but I do stroke their legs as a means of moving them into the positions I want them in. BTW, I would advise this be done with a paintbrush with any tarantulas of whose temperament you are not 100 % sure!
