And when my kindergarten or first grade kid gets injured at school because the "most knowledgeable" person is letting kids handle something that is dangerous... Don't fear the critter... FEAR THE FURIOUS PARENT!

I may be over reacting, but I would certainly hope parents have signed waivers for the liability. I could only imagine the bad press coming from this if something went bad.

It's one thing if you are an expert, it's another when you go to a petstore to fondle the critters to look for the least skiddish one for your project.

Good Luck and I'm just thankful you and your well thought out plan aren't near my school.

Spoken like a well informed intern! :D

first graders and preschoolers????? IMO kids this young shouldnt be holding tarantulas. I have a 7 and 9 year old and have seem them around my T's. When the T moves a little quicker than normal they jump a little. This again IMO is a really bad idea especially with kids that are not yours.
Briarpatch10... he told me to GTFO... So you better GTFO too for saying the same thing! :D

because this is all MY doing? yeah right...
no, waivers are not signed. i have absolutely no idea why they aren't. teachers from different schools contact us, and have us come into their classrooms... what the teachers do, depends on them.
'my project' hahaha
this is a university of illinois extension program... nothing is well thought out.
i really mean that too. i was hired because i'm a quick thinker, not a planner. that sounds stupid, i know, but they're all slackers, none are morning people, they drink hard, it's ridiculous. i won't go into a workplace rant... but you can't blame me for this stuff the university does, i'm a freaking intern.

Would you jump off a bridge if your illinois extension program asked you to? DUH!?!?!? Stand up and say something you goof!

If it were me I would stay as far away from the "kids holding a tarantula" thing as I could. If one gets bit and gets sick, allergic whatever everyone will get sued including the intern that meant well and was informed. If it were me as a parent I would sue everyone that put my kid at risk. Hey just a thought!

Do you think it wise to talk this poorly and personally of the people you work with when you have given more than enough information on where you work to out you for doing it?

i would make them buy a new tank, but they probably wont, since the one i made up is 'sufficient' to their purposes.
first of all, sufficent =! correct... i gave you my opinion, and you chose to disregard it. whatever, i won't even get into some of the other stuff.

boo-hooing about the situation being out of your control because you are an intern in unorganized program involving inverts on a forum board with members who have been in this hobby for years and respect it (and normally also the inverts they keep) seems like you are just asking for a decent flaming, no? yes, we actually do care about liability and how it makes our hobby look, especially since it is already pretty maligned without the addition of idiots (not saying you are) doing stupid things.

i'll quit because someone in the hobby longer hopefully will step up and say something, whereas you could technically point out i haven't been in the hobby long.

also, bet this thread gets locked by 2PM ;P

Wow... If I ever had kids (Which I wont!) & I got a call from the school saying that my kid had been bitten by a tarantula because someone brought it in for "show & tell"... I would have sue the piss out of that school..

You say you dont care what happens after you gone.. (Tomorrow.. Right?) Why the heck do you care if they find a tarantula then?

This is an ignorant idea.. Might not be your idea.. But you are playing a roll in it.. So its not making you any smarter than the retard that thought up the idea of a bunch of little kids "passing around" a T that could more than likely bite.. And will if it gets that one child that is so scared and jumps.. :embarrassed:

Some kid is going to get their first bite & be scared poo-less of spider.. All because someone's not so well thought out "project"

i was told to find a freaking tarantula. i'm doing my job. until tomorrow, then i will no longer be doing my job, obviously.
OK.. Hmm.. Tell them its a bad idea? Thats a possibility.. Right?

I mean.. You did say you were the "more educated" one.. Didnt you? So.. Be more educated and educate them on the ignorance of what they are doing..
