I can see the concern for other new keepers but personally this is how I learn the names of genera I don't keep. If someone abbreviates a genus I'm not familiar with I'll google it and see, oh that's what that is. Nice google adventure for me.

Perfect. That means that you understand my example and the benefit of abbreviations and shorthand.

Not quite. because abbreviations of nomenclature on their own are ambiguous and don’t actually have any meaning in and of themelsves. Shorthand is only beneficial when it is short for one thing in specific, not multiple things like different genera. “P.” Is not shorthand for one thing. “Po” or “Poe” is

On your first day here? No. However, they really do once you've been reading these forums or reading about various species for more than 2-3 weeks. They just sink in due to repetition. The 5th time you heard someone ask about G. pulchra, you don't have to wonder what the G stands for. You quickly become familiar with it.

That’s not really what I’m saying I think you miss the point with it being ambiguous. but I do get your response about getting used to it.

I don’t have time to write out Heteroscodra in italics when I’m quickly commenting on arachnoboards in lunch break. I don’t even have time for maculata.
So I hope you guys can get used to H. mac

What about Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens instead of GBB? :troll:

You can always google a species, a non issue. Think the OP is just being pedantic.
