It was an H. gigas, and the thread is here complete with videos. I've read that they are a burrowing species that will "swim" if a pool is provided in their enclosures. As far as why they have adapted to do this, be it for defense or for hunting or for something else, I don't know.
I stand corrected :worship:

Still think it's irresponsible to bring home yet another T that will probably be treated with the same lack of respect.

To the OP: Make sure your family knows what you bring home!

Yea its the same T....but it was all my brothers falt he left it open. See i had kept it in his room because it was warmer so then it got loose some how. It was a pretty fast bugger if i say so. Well since he lost it he gave me a new one. Its one of those digging and swimming spiders.
This is exactly why everyone told you not to get it. You clearly have no regards for your pets' lives, nor the experience or responsibility necessary to care for them. /rant

Wonnetz , I suggest you get a G. rosea for the time being. While you have the rosea research spiders that intrest you. Once you've learned a good amount on that certain species get it and make sure your family knows not to go messing with it. Sorry but you are not ready for poecs just yet.

I am not in a story book and this isen't a movie. Im going to take good care of it tommorow its coming in. I will take a picture of it and put it on here tommorow after school.
After school? :/ Personally I think this is a HORRIBLE idea. I started with a A. Avicularia and then got a G. Rosea... P.Striata is too much spider for a beginner, in my opinion, especially since you said you go to school...

Well im not your mom or anything, I just think its a bad idea. :wall:

Wonnetz,

In all honesty, you've made a mistake. This is like learning to swim in the middle of the ocean.....kinda sink or swim. Poecilotheria--all of them--are difficult tarantulas to be sufficiently safe with, and are usually kept by those with at least SOME experience in keeping tarantulas. For a first tarantula, owned by a school-kid no less...this is simply a bad decision.

Your parents might be ok with you buying it, but they won't be ok with your hospital bill after you get bitten (which is very likely to happen, since you don't know what you are doing with Tarantulas; even the experts have a challenging time avoiding bites from Poecs). These things cause MASSIVE suffering, and require prescription narcotics to treat.

I doubt your parents would be so enthusiastic if they read the bite reports you have been shown. And I doubt you will be so enthusiastic for P. striata after you experience a bite of your own.

There are plenty of safer tarantulas to keep, without jumping into the snake-pit, as it were, by getting a Poec.

Aren't you scared Wonnetz? I'm sure there are ways to remedy the situation you're in and step down to a slightly less defensive T. Maybe someone here would be willing to buy the P off of you, or you could send it back?

Look at this guy.... he owns like.... a bajillion Ts, an expert in caring for them. You would think that if anyone could avoid a bite, it would be this guy.... And yet... he had to go to the hospital.

The T that bit him was the same genus as the one that you have. I don't know how old you are, or how big you are, but Robc is pretty big. If that put him down for like a week.... imagine how long it would take YOU to recover, and how much time you might have to spend in the hospital. It's not a bee sting... this is something that could cause SERIOUS damage. And no matter how careful you are.... you could STILL get bit.

The fact that you can say you won't get bit really just drives it home that you're not ready for this guy. If you're going to own a T, you have to accept the probability that the chances of you getting assaulted are EXTREMELY high, EVEN for the experts. If you can't register this risk, then I think you lack the maturity to have one.

It's just like a kid learning to drive. If my kid is running around saying... "Don't worry mom!! I'm not going to have an accident!!" I'd probably delay him getting his license until he accepts the fact that he probably will eventually have an accident.

Guys...

I know you're kidding around, but please don't post stuff like this. New members are going to read it and possibly take you seriously.

I get the joke, but let's try not to spread misinformation.

Agreed. It's funny to those who KNOW it's a joke. Find someone who doesn't....and it won't be so funny.

good point. i dont handle anything. EVER. start with something easy that you like. then go with harder stuff. me, i only have one, and its a rosie, basically the one in every pet store you see everywhere. its easy, and cheap. i dont even know if im gona get something thats more intense, but its personal preference. try a g rosea and feel it out, and how you do then go bigger or badder etc. but not without experience. think of it like skydiving, tandum jump before you solo jump..if that helps
