Aside the freebies I've acquired >w< I think my favourite cheapie has been my OBT-R, Dio, for $25 he was already 2inches in size and somehow ended up being really chill. Never once a threat pose from him, hes a good lad.

I often go toe reptile show where many breeders are. You can pick up many slings for cheap.

H.maculata € 5,-
H.gigas € 4,-
N.chromatus € 5,-
P.irminia € 4,-
P.murinus € 5,-

And if you would go to 7 or 8 you can get much more .

My favorite is and always will be the A.geniculata ..... they are so great to grow up.

To me it's surprising that an H mac is so cheap. OBT as well.. Yes, they are easily obtained. But the low price tag tends to make beginners buy out of their skill set which bothers me.
Someone on fb (therein lies the problem) has a P metallica and H mac as their 2nd and 3rd spider. Crazy to me.

A geniculata, they're amazing eaters, amazing lookers, they don't take forever to grow, and they're hardy af.

T albopilosum is always a classic.

T vagans are gorgeous and not nearly as crazy as they're portrayed to be.

These would be my top 3.

What are the parameters for "cheap?" Is desire/scarcity a factor? Or are we just talking lowest total at checkout?

I used to think a $200 and up tarantula was insane price wise.

Recently that made me evaluate myself. Do I put so low a value on a tarantula's life and what it's worth because it's just a spider?

Price is all relative. The cost of snakes and reptiles can be huge alot more than the most expensive tarantula.

Years ago I contacted a Samoyed breeder out of Montana. She had the dogs with the traits I was looking for. Her pups go for $4500 - $5500. Think it was 'Long Run Samoyeds' out of Darby, MT.

I wish I could get one of her pups for $1500 but those days of those prices are over.

I guess the point I'm making to myself at least is not to devalue a tarantula just because it's a big spider.

Depends on the genus and species. Not all of them live 20+ years

Wow that’s a lot, for a sling? I once purchased an AF C. huahini for £30. Seems to be one of the cheaper T’s you will find in the UK.

N chromatus slings I often also see for around £5.

I remember few years back I looked at a price list from a U.S dealer and was blown away with the prices of some T’s, I just assumed they were harder to import than in EU/UK.

Acanthoscurria geniculata. Aphonopelma seemani. Tlitocatl Albopilosum. The Ceratogyrus genus. All cheap and some of the best Ts out there. Everyone should have an Acanthoscurria geniculata.
