Devil's advocate here (and that's all, no opinion otherwise), but he does live in a tropical environment that have natural parasites that target tarantulas, among other animals. I know I don't have to worry about that in the middle of the US.
i’ve thought of this and i think assuming this argument to be true and as if it were a common place thing i feel like there would be ways in which keepers that compensated for that such as strict quarantining protocols, stricter inspection and keeping of feeders, exclusively dealing with CB specimens produced within “the hobby” there and so on

if i lived in such a place and knew this i would be trying to come up with everything possible to eliminate this from being a possibility such as sealing up the room my arachnids are in (to which his room is currently infested with rats and 1 ate1 of his T’s - which there again why would you not make sure that your collection is in a secure environment where this could never take place)

I find EL absolutely disrespectful and careless with all his animals, so yes i kinda avoid his channel. Still, I wonder a couple of things.
First, as far as i have read in that news article, it is solely based on his and a friends perspective, that being said i cant stop to raise an eyebrow to all his "no warrant" version thing.
About the dead tarantula... well can we actually be sure that it was the wildlife departments fault? because those dead traps he calls enclosures, rare deceases etc...

if you are gonna post suspicious stuff online (hey exotic diseases) for youtube hits don't be shocked when someone knocks on your door
Agreed- like posting Ts that are “rare” with insane prices, and crying about the law at your doorstep

I was raised in an older era. We didn't have cell phones and social media accounts. But we lived by one rule "Don't record anything that would offend your grandmother or interest the Sheriff"

We knew when to put the cameras, video cameras away

still words to live by.

and just for a little perspective, a bunch of transplanted midwesterners decided they wanted to fish for Pike out here in California, so they illegally planted them in Davis Lake. Because Davis Lake feeds into the main waterway of Ca the Pike posed a threat to Native Fish through much of the state. They literally had to kill everything in that lake via poison to guarantee that not from happening. When you look at what Asian Carp and Snakeheads are doing in much of this country it gives you an idea of what can happen. (or Pythons in Florida) So I have some sympathies for wildlife enforcers

i think this hits on some core problems - that unless you are keeping things ethically you’re active contributing to the death of “the hobby” insomuch as illegal animal trading is just as ecologically impactful as deforestation, etc as is keeping things above your paygrade and releasing foreign species locally

i am v critical of the State and it’s agents however there are times when they do things, such as the removal of starving dog from someone, that they do things which are morally good irrespective of if they try to exploit their positions for profit

shame that it doesn’t actually have to be this way and that keepers could have a symbiotic relationship with conservationists eg: no local releases and breeding for conservation projects

The authorities acted badly, but he acted even worse. We have lost the count of every problem or death Ts he had.

Also it'd be nice to know the real reasons behind the operation, and not only EL opinion.

honestly should have his collection confiscated anyway but curious if anyone has heard of this or has an opinion on it

“Facebook page of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks posted a statement, saying that Negeri Sembilan’s Department of Wildlife had confiscated 12 Tarantula of different species at a premise located at Seremban.”

Keep it simple and obey the law, makes it better for all of us.

the authorities may be letting animals die on purpose because of the threat they potentially pose. Totally sucks, and is just lazy DFW work.

I am from Malaysia, the country where Exotics Lair is from. Trust me when I say you are giving the authorities too much credit to think that way. This was just a careless mess-up on the authorities' part.

thanks. But I'm still gonna wager there was a tad of "if they are dead we have less to do" in this
