I have a 1/2” sling coming this week, but haven’t found much information. I assume they would be kept in a similar fashion to my E. campestratus? And is it true they are a smaller species? I do know they are super slow growers. My E. campestratus is almost 2 and maybe 2” if they’re lucky. Any information would be appreciated. ☺

Pretty much the same. Not sure about them being a smaller species.

Hey congrats on the new addition! I'm in the same boat, I got two 1/2" E.weijenberghi from Tarantula Can at the expo as well as two 1.25" E. campestratus!

I can say for sure after keeping them for over a month, they are very similar to the E. campestratus except they grow very slowly. One of the E. weijenberghi just molted with me and it did NOT grow that much.... it almost looks the same size as when I got it. I heard they grow to about 3-4", so I guess that's why they don't seem to grow that much with every molt. I've had both my E. campestratus molt with me, and I could see a size difference between molts. I've even compared my G.pulchripes 1/2" molt with my E.weijenberghi and can see the size difference.

They LOVE to burrow... so if you don't want to lose them in the substrate ( they create some crazy mazes and tunnels), I'd say keep them in a fairly sized sling enclosure. Mine are not often out in the open, they are usually in their burrows or stay at the opening most of the time.

Mine are very docile! They never kicked any hairs at me or thrown me a threat pose. Every time I open the lids, they just run into their burrows. When I had to move them from into their new enclosures, the E. weijenberghi's did not put up a fight and just went ahead into their new home while I only had one spicy reaction from my E. campestratus, but I can't blame them since I was evicting it from their home.

I enjoyed every minute with them!

I’ve had my E. campestratus for 6 months and it’s molted for me twice. It has definitely put on size, but nowhere near my Avic or B. emilia. It has gotten a little more attitude after the last molt, but was the only tarantula I dared handle, until today, when my E. weijenberghi arrived and it transferred itself to the deli via my hand. My E. campestratus has a cork burrow I made for them, but they are out as much as they hide. They have recently taken to putting a foot on the water bowl to prevent me from removing it to clean. Despite how slow this genus grows, they are probably my favourite, which is why I chose my new little buddy. All but one of my tarantulas are from Tarantula Canada, love them so much, and shipping is always a dream (minus the courier just dumping them at my front door).

My two babies, Gimli who I’ve had for a while, and Kelani who arrived today. ☺

Hey same here! All 7 of my slings are from Tarantula Canada! =) I picked up 5 of them at the expo because they were in my area but I did get my first two through shipping with them.

Oh you got the B. emilia! that was one of my choices but I got the B. albiceps instead...I just love the carapace on the B. albiceps! Love your photos! Sounds like your E. campestratus are similar to mine, half the time hiding and half the time outside exploring. Hopefully, your E. weijenberghi stays out for a bit... mine did before it started making their burrows and just wants to hide in there most of the time now.

I asked Amanda from TarCan how long they live... she says 'They haven't bred them ( since 2005) for that long to know but if well taken care of, they can live over 20 years similar to the E. campestratus. (females)'

"-my E. weijenberghi arrived and it transferred itself to the deli via my hand"- Yeah, I did the same thing too! They are the sweetest species I own so far, just very chill and great eaters (when they're not in pre-molt). I'm very happy I decided to pick up a second E. weijenberghi instead of one. =) Enjoy your little one!

My B. emilia was a sexed male and he’s a decent sized fella. Not mature yet though. He’s generally a pet hole and I usually only see legs. I got my H. sp. Colombia from them as well. It molted the day after I got it and is my only tarantula to bolt right out of the enclosure, feisty wee thing.

Pretty sure my new E. weijenberghi is in pre molt, if the booty is any indication. If they get around 3-4” then they are definitely smaller than the E. campestratus which are more like 5-6”.

I hope your babies live a long time! My E. campestratus is a possible female, if that’s the case, I’ll have to add them to my Will. 😉

I have 3 E. weijenberghi. One I had for a year now, got it as a 1/2" sling and had just hit 1" with it's 2nd molt with me, I've also confirmed it as male. The other 2 I've had for about 3 months now, had their first molt with me, confirmed both as female and are about 3/4"

Is there a knack to sexing tarantulas so small? My E. campestratus is 2” and I’m still not 100% sure.

Luck that your tarantula gives you a perfect molt, steady hands and patience. The smallest molts I've sexed out were 3 1/2" Aphonopelma species

I posted to the forums, but was told it was too small and not clear enough. Which I understand, but I have no idea what I’m looking at either. I just took this of my E. campestratus’ last molt, it’s been dry in a jar for a while and I blinded myself with the flashlight. 😉
