I was brought up by a very grammatically and politically correct mother from London, England. I was taught not to use the term 'it' when unsure of gender from a very young age. And while using both 'it' and 'they' are grammatically correct - it would not be very politically correct to approach someone's child, whose gender is unknown, and refer to them as an 'it'. I was taught from a very young age that it is better to use the term 'they' in order to not offend someone. Because using 'they' is as grammatically correct as using 'it'.
Being almost 50, I find it very difficult to reverse a lifetime of being politically correct in my speech. So, I am sorry if I confuse people, but it is something that I cannot change that easily.
When taken in the context of this post, it is easy to see that I am speaking of a singular spider.
Oh my gosh, i had no idea. I can understand that the word it may sound disrespectful, but i had no clue as to why the term 'they' would be better or even grammatically correct. English is not my first language.
It can create some confusion though, but only to people who are new to your posts.

I find it very sad that people think that being inoffensive and empathetic to others is BS.
IMO, it´s not about being either offensive or inoffensive to anyone, but simply dealing with reality. It exists only two genders, male and female (intersex mutations might happen, but it is quite rare and a mutation). That´s how it is! If I want to identify as a tuna fish and claim to be one, I might do so, but it will not change the facts. I will still be a Norwegian male, crazily claiming to be a tuna fish! In my world, the same goes for those "trans persons" who thinks they can decide their sex like I choose if I want pizza or pasta for dinner. If someone is born male and undergo surgery and treatment to become female (or vica versa), that person will still be male, albeit a castrated one with fake boobs. That´s how I see it, no offense intended (although I suspect some offense will be taken).

I have never owned a E.campestratus, VanessaS, so I have no valid first hand info to share, but I manage to spot sometimes (even 1/2 times every two months) my baby Goddess 0.1 Pelinobius muticus, out of her burrow, for taking a (quite long, more always than 20 minutes) good drink on the water dish. Then, after, she returns in her burrow :-s

I don't have pics of her drinking, sadly. I wouldn't worry at all, if the spider eat without problems it's only a drink for me :)
just keep the water dish full (needless to say, I know you know this).

Intolerance is one of those strange traits that speaks to the givers lack of character and not the receiver. While you have absolutely no control over the gender that someone chooses to identify with - you very much do have control over how you treat other human beings. It costs me nothing, and actually makes me feel pretty good inside, to show others kindness rather than spite. However, if your character, or lack thereof, drives you to make another choice, then so be it. I just ask that you kindly keep your lack of character off my threads.

I'm not going to spend a bunch of effort making every day rainbows and fuzzies for everyone that I interact with all the time. In general I'm pretty nice though. It gets tiresome and annoying catering to the lowest common denominator.
Isn't that the problem, that they are not the lowest common denominator anymore? If they were you could easily ignore them and continue to treat them like people did in the past. Though now they are getting heard and people are less willing to let rudeness slide you tire of it.

I don't usually go out of my way to offend people either but if I do they can pull up their britches and deal with it like big boys and girls, ignore me, or go sulk in the corner about it. Life goes on.
I find it amusing that when other people complain they need to 'man up'/'pull up their britches'/'find their big boy and girl pants' but it's perfectly ok for you to throw out your complainants. Just what do you need to go find to soothe your hurt feelings?

Maybe, though regardless of what you think is it too hard to just be kind to other people? I don't agree with a lot of ideas others have and I am able to treat them with respect. At the end of the day it cost nothing to show someone kindness and respect but for some people that is still too high a price to pay.

Well back to the question of Ts drinking. I've only had my A.versi dunk down in a dish like that(that I have seen). I think it's just drink/washing/grooming.

I was just curious because they had completely submerged their entire carapace in the water and I have never seen that before. I have seen mine sit over the water dish and drink, but this little one took that to a whole other level. I am very careful that everyone has water, especially after moulting, so they haven't gone without a drink for more than a few hours.
It was just very strange for me to see that. Thanks for your feedback. :)

Don't have a clue why but if they like it I'm all for them doing as they will within their own inclosures.

Ah ah ah just for joking, you people should live a couple of years in Italy. Here we are crazy for those things, especially in the Southern part, when dialects are involved. Ancient like the boot :-s

"Lui?" "Lei?" instead they say: "Chiddu" "Chillu" <--- basically like depicting an object, muahahahahah but in a innocent, normal way... it's incredible, the only nation of Europe where subtitles (in Italian) are needed, otherwise we wouldn't understand, from North to Center to South, each others.

This due to English freemasonry and their back then plans for the unification of the boot, of course :)

Some folks just need something to go off on a tangent about. I skim over them when I'm able, if you don't like the way she expresses herself it's simple enough to avoid the threads.
Personally, having average intelligence, (stop laughing)
I managed to understand her perfectly.
Now, does anyone have any real answers to this? My LP sling, (1.5"+\-)
Spends most of their time in the water dish also.

I just think it was a hint that I need to buy them a pool.

Now that's a new one for me about Italia.
Yup man.
When, for instance, something happens in the South (Mafia killings, or psycho deranged brutal murders that, sadly, attract zombies to those voyeuristic TV shows like a bear with honey) the press starts to ask questions, investigate the neighbours/friends etc obviously.

Now, if those are people in their 20 to 50 (but still, ah ah) they reply in perfect Italian (with a different accent, of course, but that's all) but if they ask the elders, lol, in TV you see subtitles :)

Same for those if happens in the North. My dialect is a mix of German combined with French, thanks to the helluva bloody battles we fought against that dwarf from Corsica '-,,-'

A man from Roma i used to know, he was a cop sent here 30 years ago, never learned that, keep saying "It's like the foreigners department" lol

My B. albopilosum loooves her water dish. I've seen her drink AND float like a swimmer.
But I think that I'd better get her a bigger swimming hole!

I have an old like hell 0.1 attached to her water dish as well. She's lovely and mental, quite defensive if you try to remove the dish for cleaning. I love her :)

But isn't "hen" a female chicken? In English anyway.
Yeah, but I placed it in italics to show that it weren´t an English word. Official Swedish now has three personal prounouns: han (he), hon (she), and hen (political correct BS)
I know I shouldn't be knocking this thread back off topic but I just can't resist recalling one of my favorite Seinfeld dialogues...

Frank Costanza: "Let me understand, you got the hen, the chicken and the rooster. The rooster goes with the chicken. So, who's having sex with the hen?"

George Costanza: "Why don't we talk about it another time?"

Frank Costanza: "But you see my point here? You only hear of a hen, a rooster and a chicken. Something's missing."

Mrs. Ross: "Something's missing all right".

Mr. Ross: "They're all chickens. The rooster has sex with all of them".

:p:)

I didn't mean to start an argument Vanessa, I just didn't understand the grammar behind it. Learn something new every day :).
