Well. The title says it all. Over a year now, and my efforts to finding one in Canada have been zero to none.

those of you, lucky enough to have purchased slings in the last years, i would like to discuss your sling care observations.

to me its pretty basic. But i only have Tom Morans videos. His recent one, (ironic that i havent watched any of his new material in months), is about this species. I was bored and wanted to watch some tarantula videos and decided to see what He had been doing lately. The shocker.

this is obviously what pushed me to the edge. This is a species that i find very interesting. Not only by their looks, but different defensiveness, compared to other old worlds.

this is appealing to me. I don’t mind speed and defensiveness. I still enjoy a tarantula that is not ready to bolt and defend itself just because i opened the enclosure.

what have your experiences with slings been, versus adults.

has anyone been able to find trust worthy breeders?

has somebody been planning a breeding project?

please share any pertinent observations on the evolution of these tarantulas in your care.

from different behavior depending on your local weather/season.

to percentage of visibility.

did you keep it with deep sub? Or attempt less sub in a “enclosure is burrow” style enclore.

i am sure it would be expensive: considering the few amount of them for sale, and their unique attributes.

i definitely reccomend you get one or two, instead of 12 more tarantulas hahaha.

I got 5 half inch slings July 24 from Spidershoppe with the intent to breed. I lost one sling immediately due to a failed molt. The other 4 have done great. Grow rate is very slow, with molts coming every 4-6 months and little size gain.

They are fairly chill. All of them sit right out in the open and only retreat when I'm doing maintenance on nearby enclosures. The vertical web tunnels are very neat. Its like an ant hill.

They are my wife's #1 species. So we got enough to give us good odds of at least one female.

i am loving this feedback. This is what i was thinking they could be like. So one person confirming it, adds to my expectations.

i am sorry you lost a sling but happy 4 made it. With 5, i thing one death is acceptable due to this species being so uncommon within keepers.

i hope you have success and that the 4 make it too adulthood. I wish you many females.

My 0.0.2 slings eat well, but (as already mentioned above) grow very slowly compared to other African spiders in my care. For three molts of a young Pterinochilus, my E. pachypus slings will perhaps molt once. They are almost always out and very calmly retreat to their burrows when I open the enclosure. Or they stay in the open and don't even flinch.

Great Pic!

I also want some of these OP. I've only seen 1 for sale in the past year and the seller wanted more than I'm willing to pay for them.

I am really hoping they make their way to Canada. I had an adult female about 12 years ago and it was my favorite OW species. She was so calm, never gave me a problem. Whenever I opened the cage she would pop out of her burrow and just sit and wait. For sure the calmest OW species I've ever dealt with.

@fartkowski we can only hope some arrive.

i know they are present for sell in Canada, but prices are greedy. Or so a little bird told me. I dont encourage that kind of business.

@Wolfram1 a friend of mine went to a UK expo and saw some for sell.

Uncanny timing. Its my birthday today and I ordered one yesterday. The trouble when you only afford one it is a bit of a risk. 🫤 Is it prudent to buy more. Money is the issues but the care is not that expensive.

Yeah I've seen them for sale but for way more than I'm willing to pay. I'll wait til the prices come down.
