Effects of smoke on tarantulas

I currently keep my t's in my living room. Problem is, my roommate smokes marijuana in the living room often - essentially, every day. Being in the same room, do you think this is impacting their health? Should I move them into another room ASAP?

(I'm sorry if this post is against forum rules, but it is a legitimate question)

While we're on the subject, what about cigarette smoke?

Thanks,
David

I think you should definately move them out of there. If you have any species that require high humidity, the smoke, dosnt matter what substance is being burned, can condense within the droplets of water, thus leaving traces of tar and other toxic residue.

Just get them out of there if you know whats good for them...

If your room is of a decent size, I would say NO. If it's a small cramped room with no real circulation, then yes.

In your opinion, what qualifies as a decent enough size not to pose a potential health risk?

To the OP: I would put your tarantulas in a different room.

Other room for T's and anything that has to do with their enclosures / feeding I'd say. However, I guess that, again, is personal preference. Some just don't care (the old "there's no scientific proof for smoke being harmful" bs I guess...) and others want to be on the safe side...up to you. If it would be my T - certainly other room, a LOT of ventilation to get the smoke out quickly and storing anything that goes into enclosure or feeders even in another room, too. Wouldn't want to take the risk of losing one of my T's just because of being too lazy about caring for them. No pun intended, just my opionion.

I burn incense literally inches from my Ts separated by a little bit of metal and I've never had a death yet.

:sarcasm: live fast die young right?

If you run a search, people like your roommate often own Ts and post this same question.

Uh decent to me would be a few hundred square feet or so. If it's a no window'd room that barely has enough room for a sofa and a tv stand then move it. Or ask your roomate to stop smoking in that room.......

I'd say as long as there is ventilation you should be fine. Don't fog the enclosures out or anything, but a properly ventilated room wouldn't be an issue IMO.

Considering the fact that tarantulas breathe as slow as they do, the odds of them breathing in any smoke is unlikely. The only thing I'd be worried about is the THC in the marijuana, which is a natural pesticide I believe. That being said I keep my T's in my living room and I've smoked both cigarettes and marijuana(I don't smoke anymore) in my living room while my T's were in there. Their enclosures were only a few feet away from me and I never had any problems.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies.
Even though I don't see how it would be much of a problem, I can't help worrying and stressing so it must be time to move them

Not THC,Nicotine. Nicotine is a very powerful pesticide.

My obt gets couchlock if that counts! If you want to try get an edible, gutload it to a roach and feed immediately, watch your tarantula carefully...

People like your roomate  lol. What the hell does that mean?!

But yes, I agree that marijuana smoking would not affect your ts as long as you, I mean they don't blow smoke in their tanks. Cigs would probably be fine like catfish said, but nicotine is a pesticide...
