Don't worry this isn't like the other 55g tank thread :)

You could set up a nice planted tank with good lighting and a lot of cool features. Throw in an emperor scorpion, and you have a little bit of the jungle.

Why not? Whats the problem with a communal enclosure?
I just picked up a crap ton of bark scorps... Parents are pretty P.Oed about me having 49 scorpions now, so They say I cant do the communal enclosure. They said I can only have one more. Stupid in my opinion, but I get to have 50 scorps total :)

I was thinking of that, but I was wondering If I could do not very much substrate with alot of cover... That way he would still be able to hide, but if I needed to get him out I could just lift up the hide.

Theres a "how-to" on ScorpionForum on how to make an emp enclosure with a pool. That might be pretty cool for a big tank have a pool...maybe a waterfall.

I am pretty sure most bark scorps are communal, but I don't know scorps very well.

Yeah I know. Some of mine are set up communally, some aren't. Now I'm just looking for a large, active scorp, and wondering if an emperor could do well with not much substrate, and a lot of cover.

EDIT: I also have smaller cages to use, so If There is nothing real big that is real active, I have tanks ranging down to a .5 gallon. I would also be ok with something with non-life threatening venom that is pretty active and real unique. Just an all around awesome scorp.

Heterometrus sp.?
Are those active? I always thought those would be more like emperors... Anyway, I have something in mind that I was hoping you guys could help with... I really love the parabuthus look... They have always been one of my favorite animals. Are there any scorpions that look similar, without the extremely potent venom?

You could try Rhopalurus garridoi but they don't look that much like Parabuthus sp. and they are a bark scorpion.

You should just get a Heterometrus swammerdami. Very cool, very big (bigger than emperors), pretty rare, and would make an awesome centerpiece display if you set it up right. It would look like a piece of habitat during the day, and at night the beast would roam looking for its next victim. Check out the link that another poster put up today in this forum.

I have had other Heterometrus, and they were out quite a bit more than the emperors that I have kept. That's not saying much, though. Most of the larger scorpions are pretty lazy as adults. Their movements are almost exclusively done at night (the only one I know that's active during daylight is Parabuthus villosus - largest buthid, but medically significant).

Ok thanks... I'll think about them... do you know of any that look similar to the parabuthus, vith less venom? the thick tail look?

There are several, but they are smaller. Rhopalurus and Babycurus are the largest thick tailed buthids with less potent venom. Vaejovis carolinianus has a very thick tailed look, very week venom, but very small. Other Vaejovids would also fit the look, but, again, most are very small.
