WELL DONE PETE!!!

While everyone else is so focused on the hot spideys (Asians and the like), you've pulled off an unbelievable achievement, with little to no info! Great job Pete, I hope you recorded the sordid details....

These little guys are the true gems of the theraphosid world mate and the good news is you'll probably find most of the other tiny cuties (like the other little gems, Hapalopus spp. will probably mimick each other in breeding habits. So you now know they like to burrow to lay the sac, perhaps your strange choice of substrate did the trick??

Either way, big congrats mate, this is the biggest and best breeding news I've heard on this site so far (forget the blue pokies, they breed easily apparently!). :)

The most underated T's in the whole trade...

Just seperated slings into vials...17 from first small sack and 91 from second sack.I had about a 25% loss.Still not bad for first time attempt at C.elegans. :D
Congrats! I'm so glad to hear it went so well!!

Where can I get me some of these, now? ;)

Anybody know where I can get some C. elegans? I really like dwarf species.

It depends on what country you're in.

Thanks for all the praises..I am humbled.I think there was a lot of luck with this breeding as I'm really still novice to breeding.About the only thing I can say is I tried the common sense approach with them.I don't like peat moss for a substrate.Way too acidic for my likings.I've been to South America a few times and seen the soil. It's rich..loamy..lots of composted/composting material. Not at all acidic but neutral to slightly alkaline.I tried best to match the soil...black earth with a bit of composted organic soil and very well composted/mulched cedar mulch.Makes for a nice substrate.
Second thing was prior to breeding I kept the soil slightly moist...more to the dry side.I fed only once a week..just enough to keep them going.Pretty much everything in a "dry season".A lot of people think South and Central America..tropical...always humid/wet/raining.Not at all.In fact they do have a dry season.Although it may rain everyday..rain is short in duration and really doesn't do a good soaking. The soil actually becomes very dry and vegetation even dies off/ceases to grow.Food is available but not abundant. This will last for months. Then the wet season.Heavy rains everyday...everything gets drenched soaked..sometimes monsoonal rains.Veg growth kicks in..food becomes abundant. This is the wet season. It will last for a couple months. So after I bred the spiders I powerfed and soaked the soil almost to the point of wet.I also increased the temps into the low eighties..up from low seventies.I also read where Eddy(metallica) uses this procedure also with his brachy's..thought to try it also(thanks Eddy).
So with a few common sense approaches..a couple pointers from the boards/members and a lot of luck it worked. It definitely wasn't because I knew what I was doing and confident in it..lol..I got lucky..it worked. As far as being a hard species to breed.Given somewhat the right conditions/stimuli and they should breed quite well.
I also found that they will breed younger than thought. Both females were appr 10 months to 1 yr old...the male matured at about the same age.The male maturing also had the influencing factor in giving it a shot..one male..two females...when am I going to get another male?..I gave it a shot.So lets thank the male for maturing quickly...and having the "jam"...lol..

Most of all I couldn't have done it without Martin (tarcan). Thanks for bringing/importing these gems to Canada..TarantulaCanada rocks!

Also with breeding.Give the males all the time they like.Believe me, they can go for a long time.Martin(tarcan) and I were amazed at the duration of the mating.I separated after a 1/2 hr..Martin I believe had a male and female going for 1 1/2 hrs...lol...these little males are horny little guys.I would monitor closely at all times though as Martin mentioned to me he was told/read that there is a risk to male to be eaten by the female..not uncommon.

Pete, the male being eaten was what I read in Verdez book... so far in four matings, I had absolutly no sign of agression from the females and they all mated for more then an hour all of them... really incerdible

>>I never noticed any signs of aggression either. It was always quite gentle actually. If anything if the female wasn't interested she would just run away with the male in hot pursuit..lol..Maybe the eating of the male by the female is increased if cohabitation was tried??

These are appr. time frames for stages of growth.
>>nymphs(eggs with legs)=14 days
>>1st instar..mobile but not eating=30 days

I'll update when they molt to 2nd instar..I'm guessing right now maybe around the 45th day?
