I Did It!!!!!

I did it....I can't believe it.My female elegans that I bred in this thread has laid a sack...I'M STOKED!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

About a week after she bred she made a different kind of burrow. The tunnel wasn't very deep (1" below suface) where she then carved out a cave.Something I had never seen any do...well not at that depth anyways.Usually they dig some elaborate tunnels and have some sort of dugout at the bottom but this one was definitely different.Sealing herself off was another hint. They usually only do that for molting and she was a very recent molt so that also had me wondering. She was nice enough also to leave the plastic on the section of tunnel clear so I can see right into her dugout.Right now she's facing the plastic...sitting atop her sack.WOOOO...HOOOO.This I believe also makes me the first in N.A. to successfully breed elegans....well maybe I'm jumping the gun just slightly.Let's wait until they hatch.I'm stoked anyways... :D :D

Just pulled the sack and put into a artificial manual incubator.I was told elegans tend to eat their sacks and I'm not taking any chances...lol..
Pictures tomorrow :D

Congratulations Pete! That is so cool...I'm getting chills reading this thread! I know I'm chiming in late here, but I would definately be interested in a sling or two...if you have any left! Thanks for sharing this with us!

Here's a picture of the incubator and a picture of the sack in the incubator.I put a dime beside the sack for size reference.Although the sack seems small it's still reall quite big considering the size of the spider it came from.Enjoy :D

Guess what I found??

At the same time I bred my first female elegans,I also had another female but it was a little smaller than the first one.I decided to let the male have a shot at her also thinking nothing would come of it.I just uncovered/dug her up.Guess what I found?ANOTHER EGGSACK!!!.I can't believe it..lol..I never threw an artificial incubator together so fast in my life...lol...Now I've got to to tend to.I always said 2 is better than one ;) Woooo Hoooo!!!

Update

The second smaller sack from the female.I took it,opened and put the eggs into artificial incubator.I had to do this because of a small mite infestation.I cleaned out the mites and a few bad eggs. This left me with appr. 30 good eggs.I checked on them this morning.I had some hatching.I've got about 7-8 eggs with legs and more hatching. It was/is a success...a small one thus far but a success none the less.
The second larger sack is in an artificial incubator also. It's in good shape.I shall leave it for another week then open it.I expect there is somewhere in the neighborhood of 75-100 eggs..I shall update on the opening of it.

Wish I had Your luck. 2 is better, right? :D

I'm waiting now for about 3 weeks, 3 weeks ago my Ps. pulcher dropped and egg sack. I think I leave the sack by her for another 2 weeks, and then I will take the ball. Wish me luck! :D

Update

Just seperated slings into vials...17 from first small sack and 91 from second sack.I had about a 25% loss.Still not bad for first time attempt at C.elegans. :D
