What’s the difference in growth speed between dubia & orange roaches? It seems they both take along time to grow at 77-80 degrees or whatever I’ve got them at.
No clue, try putting like 5 dubia nymphs in with the others when they have nymphs, so the temps are the same, or vice versa, and watch..

How do large scale orange roach breeders keep humidity up without substrate?? Is there some secret 🤫
or something?? Trying to decide if i should try it out no sub ::.

Yeah the secret is well hidden on Google and YouTube. Only those with special privileges can even peek into the forbidden knowledge that they just mist the enclosure walls every few days

yeah I used to do that every few days , just was letting the cage dry out more . Maybe I’ll try zero substrate for a while see if I go issue free .. the nymphs will be hard to find burrowed away once they start having them.

Humidifying the entire room to the right humidity, and heating the entire room to the optimal temperature... and some secrets lol

If it works for you, go for it. I try to use taller bins because I hate having to catch them if I accidentally shake them out of the bin while doing cleaning.

I’ll try and find a taller one yes but it’s a step up from what I’m using now. I use a second smaller bin for cleaning.

We’re does placement of heatmat matter I put it in this bottom . But I want to isolate it from the floor maybe 🤔? And the thermostat probe does it go behind the mat ?

Wherever it gets the hottest, I'd say middle of the mat almost touching it.

K I’ll do that. I gotta buy some sensors eventually to see the temp threw the plastic ? Also ? Or just bump it a few degrees over the temp I’m looking for ?..so setting 88 maybe 83-84 or less through the plastic?

The probe should be in with the roaches, at the hottest spot, so the temp you set should be exactly what they are at...

Yeah I figured that but the online guides I found were were trash lol 😂 .. that’s why I asked and yes the center ?
Either way it’s correct ✅ . Not sure why the included manual doesn’t clarify anything…

I've never done it with a probe, I'm curious how you're going to hold it in there
Center and center of the roaches themselves I would think, middle of the egg flats or something. Something I read said like an inch above the bottom.

clear tape , for packing and I’ll replace it with something better later on maybe like heat tape or clear duct .
Turn out the lid is perfect for fitting the cord threw I can close and open it fine.
The one heatmat was still not at 88. Other was 87 but I could try 85 also . Either way .. anything 80-90 is prob fine. Dubia are practically swarming on the wall the heatmat was placed and oranges 🍊same thing .

I tape the probe to the mat, and stick the heat mat on the outside of the tank, probe facing out. I do it like this for every enclosure, and when testing with a thermal sensor gun, the enclosure walls never read as high as the thermostat usually 1-3° lower.

Any pics or anything on this ? I have the probe taped in the inside of the container with the heatmat on the outside, probe in center . Not sure if this is correct.. I gotta get a thermal sensor gun.

Not many photos on my phone rn. But in about a week or so I'll have access to my hard drive.

Your location works too, whether you leave it outside the bin or inside the bin doesn't matter--as long as you fix it to one point at the hottest part of the mat, which is usually the middle.

The reason I put it on the side is because I am maximum efficiency cheapo and use one heat mat for two colonies. (I have the heatmat attached to one bin, but both bins are in contact with it)

[BIN1]🔥[BIN2] <--- like this, a bin/heatmat sandwich with a creamy and hot roach filling
