Here's my little A. versicolor sling. It decided to mosey out when I was filling its soda cap with water this morning. While I don't actively handle my tarantulas, I don't turn down a situation like this. I let it hang out for a few, then gently guided it back into it's cube with a paintbrush. No poops were squirted.

Here it is:

Highlight of keeping this species is being able to do something like this. Thanks for sharing!

Wow your versicolor looks a lot different then ours, ours was a very light almost translucent blue at 3rd instar then went a very deep but vibrant blue (It still is, it's at about 6th instar now I think), yours seems to have gone darker. Course looking at it again it seems much bigger then where ours is now. Wouldn't that be more of a juvi then a sling at this point? Still beautiful. I love the versicolors

Wanted one of these wonderful tarantulas for a long long time and finally decided to get one! He/She is too pretty (photos don't do him/her justice.....).

Showing off the pretty blue colouration.

Chowing down on a cricket that is too big (crushed its head and fed from the tongs)..... Was no hesitation taking it though! He/She is a fantastic eater! (so far)

Anyways I couldn't be happier with this little spiderling, I'm in love!

Awesome! Yeah, they are fantastic eaters. Lots of enthusiasm, for sure! As long as they are set up properly, the only time they seem to refuse food of any sort is during premolt. Mine used to tackle prey her own size when she was little. It's also really neat to see their colors transform as they get older. Each molt can be a brand new spider:)

They really are! it takes whatever I have to offer first time! I used to have an A. Avic about 5 years ago and she was a really fussy eater (which surprised me), I'm glad I'm glad this one is better. I'm currently on a T love frenzy and am looking at what I could get next, was thinking about a P. Metallica? The main reason for getting a spidering was to see how they change overtime, there isn't a single time in their lifespan where they aren't beautiful.

For how long have you been keeping tarantulas, and what do you currently have?

I've been keeping tarantulas all my life really, my dad used to have a lot of various exotics and I used to help him with looking after them. Unfortunately though 5 years ago we had a house fire where all of our animals died, it was an awful time. I currently have my C. Versi and am looking at getting another few T's but my space is very limited although I probably will not be able to help myself and get more......

My second T i ever owned was a .5 inch c versicolor too. The local pet store at the time didn't have anything that looked small enough to feed it. I bought the smallest crickets they had which were about the same size of the sling. I dropped one in and the versicolor basically tackled it within seconds and gulped it up. This time i was worried so i kept checking on it and was getting ready to remove the cricket when this happened and i just had to take a picture. Its pretty fun to watch a small sling do this but i think i will try smaller prey in the future. In the wild they probably try to eat whatever they can get. My othervsling that eats oversized crickets is my pumpkin patch
