Hi everyone, first post to this sub but have been reading it for awhile now. Nice, informative, and interesting community.

So, I want to get a tarantula. I have no intention of handling or interacting with it unless absolutly necessary (unboxing, rehousing, feeding etc). After watching a bunch of videos, Im more into the species that look really unique, unlike the normal black/brown new worlds.

The spider that actually caught my attention was a Blue Quezon Earth Tiger. I actually bought the spider without doing much information and honestly didn't know it was an Old world

How screwed would I be, having no tarantula or reptile experience at all, getting this species? Is it doable? I dont want a rose hair or whatever new world tarantula. I want something that is cool to look at.

Terrible idea to buy one just for its looks with no experience you could had asked and got a beginner species . Now you gotta deal with its speed and defensiveness.

I have the spider in my room right now. Do you know if it would be difficult to rehouse the blue tiger from its enclosure it came in? It came in a plastic container with a cork log and the substrate. It currently is in the cork and boarded off both sides of the entrances so nothing can get in or out.

Depends on the individual and the methods used....It's going to be EXCEEDINGLY fast and potentially defensive and It's critical for you to remain steady and calm....without experience, It's hard not to flinch in the face of such a fast moving tarantula, especially one that could wreck you're week with a bite.

FWIW, not all NWs are boring black or brown.....there are a lot of them that are quite spectacular looking.

I am seeing that using the a cup and cardboard method is rather popular. Also, this what the enclosure looks like right now that it came in. The spider is under the long image.jpg

Well i wanted to rehouse to a little bigger enclosure that is specifically made for spiders. Also, the enclosure its in right now is plastic but does have holes and stuff. Would you recommend changing the enclosure?

How large is it?

You're not screwed.

Get a few pictures of it's enclosure from the side and we can help you a bit more.

Asian fossorials are defensive, but after some rehouses you can start reading their movements.

Why did you buy a Orphnaecus sp. Quezon Blue then? That's a pretty bland spider as old worlds go, there is loads of new worlds that look better. The most unique looking Tarantula in the hobby is new world the Typhochlaena Seladonia, loads of Avics have some mad looking colours too. And for old worlds every single pokie there is looks better than that. Somehow I think this has nothing to do with looks or you wouldn't have chosen that species.

I thought the same thing. That entire genus is fairly bland besides the Phillipinus. They resemble chilobrachy's in alot of aspects and I'm not one for Tarantulas that look like true spiders 😆 And I prefer heavy webbers that enjoy dry climates not moist ones lol. Web carpets are acceptable, not tales from the crypto with mite ornaments

Be prepared for the spider being fast when you unpack it. Keep a catch cup nearby and use tongs if it's wrapped in paper towel.

There are plenty of NW's that have stunning colors. Some Tapinauchenius resemble the spider you like, and even have a more striking coloration (IMO).

cold blood and Ratmosphere pointed out the colors in NW's. No truer statements. After collecting OW arboreals, i wanted NW arboreals because they are "unique"

What you could always do is get a P irminia or any psalmopoeus sling and raise it along side your OW. They have crazy growth rates and if you don't think the Irminia is unique idk if anyone can help you 😆 They are defensive and will give you a run for your money if you spook them.

You could also get an E murinus, a fossorial tarantula that is very fast, not crazy defensive when they are young but give it time. That can also help your husbandry a bit. 3 T's is very manageable imo.

It depends how far you want to go

Op if your going to rehouse set up the new enclosure put the old one in there open shut the new enclosure n be patient, your t will eventually explore and set up in the new space. Then there is no interaction and no danger of loosing your t or getting a bite.

I use the viv your looking at they are great enclosures for the price but they hold 0% humidity so just watch that sub.
Gl to you n your t.
