i am experimenting with Polyphaga saussurei atm, as carrion feeders with the B. dubia, in a naturalistic setup since they need to burrow

so far so good, no more phorid flies, but its only been a year so it hasn't been put through all the situations that could break the balance and crash the system

not much to see honestly, probably because the colony is so small there are just ~30-40 Adult B. dubia roaches i probably started with ~5-6 females, one or two males and a douzend juveniles a year and a half ago, i havent changed anything since.

but i was surprised they havent really decimated or dirtied the leaf litter. they just scramble to hide below it whenever i open the box. Hence you only see the roaches for a few seconds. Occasionally i will feed off adult males but thats it, i am still growing it after all.

anyway its not something i have any intention of maximising in terms of roach production, i just enjoy having a clean roach bin so far XD

(there are still some fungus gnats sadly)

@op for production you are probably still better off with the standard setup.

not sure if you could add Polyphaga saussurei into those since they need loose dirt or sand to burrow into

its still an experiment anyway
