I agree with you. To me, texting is cumbersome compared to speaking on the phone. It is communication "once removed". When I really, really need an answer to something, or if the subject matter is important or complex, I rely on extracting all the nuance and immediacy conveyed by the human voice. To me, texting is like doing a delicate job requiring a lot of precision and manual dexterity, with gloves on vs. your bare hands. It's OK for routine tasks but when you really need to get it right, you need to pick up the phone and speak to the other person.

I am curious as to whether my feeling about this is a function of my age; that is, whether younger people, who grew up with texting, have the same sense that it "loses something" in comparison to actual speech.
That's easily solved by the shortest text ever.

"call me"

With that simple text, they will automatically have your number and be able to call you back;)

The overwhelming majority don't. You're talking about a generation that has 500 of their "closest friends" on Facebook, and gets upset when someone "defriends". After all such an action is tantamount to treason.

I do that a lot with people, and they reply back with "why can't you just text/answer my question"

To which I write "if you won't call, it must not be that important"

Lol, those people are just being difficult IMO. I have zero issues with calling someone back...however if I don't recognize a number, I won't answer it...too many moments have been wrecked by telemarketers or just people I'd rather not talk to.

Their idiots and just stupid. The amount of time they spend trying to get an answer would have been solved if they called me.
