Your first one listed as an Avic sp.? looks very much like a purpurea to me, if not still very nice looking T.
Greg, the spider in question was in fact purchased as a sling as A. purpurea. It is very gorgeous, but looks quite different than my other female A. purpurea which is displayed below.

I've heard mention of different color phases in this species. Anyone with more input on this?

Anybody lets post A. huriana and A. bicegoi fotos.
Here you go, not the best pics but... First huriana juv. is around 3" and then the bicegoi, it is looking very much like a male and if so should mature next molt is around 4-1/2"

Interesting, the bands on the legs kinda thru me but other then that looks like a purp. in need of a molt? Maybe some kind of crossing with another avic species in it past bloodlines? Greg

Last I heard (correct me if I'm wrong, as I've been out of habit of reading around), someone was researching this genus and found that most will hybridize naturally in the wild and the offspring will be fertile. Again, last I heard, the new name they were working on for 90% of the spiders in this genus was Avicularia avicularia complex.

That said, I haven't read much lately. I just tend to my collection. I clearly remember talking to Rick West about this subject, though.

This is pretty intersting ... The truth is, that Avic taxonomy is really a mess and this shows even more in hobby. Anybody knows more about this A.a comlpex ?

Next week I will be gettin A.bicegoi/ A.braunshaunseni/A.laeta and hopefully A.purpurea. At the bts I plan to get any species I dont have and breed the rarer ones. Pics will follow {D

Great pix everyone! Here is my new A.avic. Hopefully she will look better after a few weeks in my care. She wasn't exactly in ideal conditions when I bought her. Shortly after taking the pix I had to dodge her poop! Which would have hit me straight in the face otherwise...

Haha, I have yet to be initiated by flying Avic poop. I wonder at what age they start developing that skill. :)

I have been awaiting that one too LOL. All my avic versis have been handled against my wishes (rush out the pot to escape) even one ended up on my nose and I had to try so hard not to freak out! But none have pooped but they are only 0.75" roughly. One has learned to jump off which was scary! Our Ad fem Avic avic readily poops on my hubby when she has had enough of bein photographed heeheehee :D

Great pics! Beautiful spiders, where did you get them from and is there a website? I'm also in the UK, just that where I am the selection is few and far between.
