Had to add this :

My middle daughter(10) was reading over my shoulder about taking the poop shooter to school in a previous post . I have taken the Hedgies, goliath beetles, and assassin bugs to her school in the past. She starts yelling in my ear that we MUST get a poop shooter and bring it to school.
Just wanted to say thanks guys! LOL!

Here is Bonni ...

Not the most recent photo, she has grown a lot, and no longer has any of the baby striping. I will try to get a better photo soon! Other than being a light eater, she is awesome. Because of her legs being so furry, I think she is more sensitive to air currents, so even a breath on her sends her scurrying a little, but she isn't at all hostile. I have had her since she was 1/2 inch long - I love raising babies!! I would definitely recommend them as a species, but then, I love all arboreals!!

oh oh...way to keep it up there girl

My versis have these incredible tube webs, and I just rehoused them. In fact, it's so strong and yet feather light, I usually bring an empty container with the webbing intact to my school presentations, so the kids can see what it feels like....

Really? What are the conditions that you have yours in? I got mine a year ago, and it is just now starting to get its adult colors at 2 inches. I keep mine at a temperature that vaires between 70 and 75 degrees farenheight. I keep it fed in a way that it is ALWAYS fat. What am I doing wrong?

Jon,

According to my records on the two versicolors that I own:

1st sling, aka Bill. Purchased 11-01 from John Hoke. It was 3/4" initiallly, on 7-20-03 (last molt) it measured about 4". It's hiding right now so I can't measure it, but I assume that it is an adult.

2nd sling, aka Bill Junior. Purchased 6-02 from John Hoke, 3/4" initially. It currently measures 3 1/2". Based upon my molt records, the length of time between molts and it's current size, I'd say it is still a juvenile.

They both have big booties so the amount of food is not in question. I keep them in the low 70s for the most part, which is cooler than the optimum temperature for fast growth. At least, that's what other people have posted. Going by the appearance of the genital aperture, Bill and Bill Junior are both female. So, under the conditions that I keep my Avics, a female versicolor takes about 2 years to go from 3/4" to 4".
