I was able to quote my response, how convenient. They're only so expensive because of how ungodly long they take to mature. The slings are usually quite cheap.

H. maculata is the most beautiful arboreal by far :p
H. maculata is my T goal at the moment, but even them. i mean, like if you look up "albino tarantula" on google, i know its not real, but that fury little ball of white would be so beautiful in my collection. or if they had like an "arctic" tarantula.

I can't handle the pokie haters! This is an outrage, saying any spider is more beautiful than the glorious Poecilotheria genus is insane! INSANE I SAY!

umm........pokies are cool, but i mean, a lot of them just look like each other.

Other then P. Metallica, that thing is gorgeous.

Pretty sure this is another thread entirely, but I'm still in LOVE with P. rufilata compared to the rest of them.

I think theres an upcoming trend towards the dwarf species - but thats just me forecasting based on my own preferences at the moment haha.

There are some pretty dwarf species. And while all of the big ones aren't setting records on color, there's something impressive about a 7 or 8"+ spider lumbering around it's cage.

This is about the only reason I have an AF T. stirmi. She's mean, she's ugly, she makes me itch, but she's a crowd favorite because of her size.

I want a tarantula that's big like a T. Smithi, colors/patterns like a H. mac, and low venom/non aggressive.

honestly i think that would probably go for like a thousand dollars because it would be like the perfect T.

M. robustum
Megaphobema robustum are stunning, amazing, T's. Too bad they are so underestimated. I see my baby every night, outside the burrow, where no noise is present and she's definitely a Class A Theraphosidae.

B.boehmei? Pfff :mooning:

Mine is still a juvie (~2"dls), and I only ever get to see it in the middle of the night. Even then, it's able to pick up the light from my red flashlight, and it always scurries right back into its hole. Hopefully it gets less skittish with size.

I hope as well for you but i'm a bit skeptical :) IMO those are among the most easy-to-spook T's out there.

.....whereas it seems terrestrials are more just solid colors, often dull.
You are new to the hobby and have not seen enough yet. However, I understand why one would think that.

Maybe, although I've see a lot of Ts although im sure there are some of the less commonly kept species like H. pulchripes (duh totally forgot about that one, see? lol) that I don't know about :p

It's all subjective on some level. Some people think the species in the USA are all striking and gorgeous. Others think a GBB blows away anything etc etc. It also depends on what you think is dull. Some people think Avics are all basically variants with a blue background, and thus, boring.

Points of views :)

IMO the 'Poor Mans Pokies", aka the entire genus Psalmopoeus, are by far (probably, and i say probably, save for P.ornata) more "manly" and high strung than genus Poecilotheria one.

Granted, those are by far one of the most (if not the worst) potent venom Theraphosidae "band" out there in the hobby, and fast as hell. But i worked with other enthusiasts (here in Italy) 'Pokies', and those weren't that "amazing" or that much "thrill" to work with/transfer/cage upgrade. Not like a S.calceatum could be in his/her "bad" day (there's a good one?). No way.

They possess striking colours, indeed. They are great. But in general (i've said in general) are "run & hide" T's. Tell that to certain P.irminia i had :)

'Pokies' are overestimated, especially P.metallica, annoying IMO as hell.

Try to "scavenge" a 0.1 hissing beast P.muticus out of her burrow for a transfer and you will see a true, primitive, vulgar display of Theraphosidae power.

Now that's brute force, lol.

P. metallica overrated...BLASPEMY, you and the Papa will need to have a chat!
Ah ah ah :) but IMO Papa "Ciccio" ("Ciccio" is a funny, short name used in Italy for "Francesco", hence "Francis") couldn't point his finger to anyone, i say. He should tell poor Pietro Orlandi what happened to Emanuela Orlandi, his sister, kidnapped and after disappeared in/near/by the Vatican, instead of promoting crap and ban me, old Chris, from the Church :p

Wish an army of primitives bulky P.muticus bites like there's no tomorrow the neck of those... :punch::rage::banghead:
