My baby :)

This is my little a.hentzi, looks and acts like it's in pre-molt. About 2-2.5" in size:

Well..

After much thought and much reading (here), I decided to take that step and get my first T. I have scorpions but had not thought about getting a Tarantula until I started reading these forums and just checking out all the info on them. Anyway without any further ado..

I have always been an earth tones sort of person so I love the look of this. It is about 3" or so and I have no idea of the sex. I looked for epiandrous fusillae but did not see one, but then again it has not been in the best of positions for me to get a clear view. That doesn't matter to me though as I wanted this as my first tarantula to just aquaint myself.

I'm not a photographer so I hope the pics are ok.

hey, welcome to the hobby of tarantulas! I think your "moderatum" is something like a "hentzi" or something because moderatum has different markings. Nevertheless great looking T I know you will enjoy it.

Well, whatever it is, it looks extremely healthy and beautiful! Congratulations on your first tarantula! Most aphonopelmas are sweethearts, you'll love it!

Hey guys thanks. After looking at some pics I think it does look a lot more like a Hentzi. I just hesitate to draw a conclusion as I know the breeder who supplies the store and he really seems to know his stuff. It could have been mislabled by the store though I guess if indeed it is not a moderatum.

Regardless, it's not a big hang-up for me as I just really liked this one and did some research that indicated that Aphonopelma could be a great starter T for me.

Hi Peter!

May I suggest about the origin? Should be Yucatan peninsula...
And seems so it is NOT Aphonopelma at all.
Hi Mikhail!

It's been a while... I thought the exact same thing when I saw this picture. Peter did not respond to my PM.

Coincidentally, the Brachypelma sp. Yucatan I have, were initially sold under the very same name: Aphonopelma sp. Yucatan. So much for Ray's nonsense about them not being available anywhere else (other than in our collections) and/or being hybrids... Ha ha!

Anyhow, to be continued via email.

Cheers,

Emmanuel

Just Got It This Morning And Already Infatuated !!

A. Bicoloratum

I think it may be a female but i'm a little unsure ... insofar as sexing goes i only know what i've read ... when i first put it into the tank it made a bee-line for the open lid and climbed up the side which let me get a little look underneath ... seen what looks like a flap !

hopefully it's a "she" - i've heard females live a lot longer !

justnow it's a bit quiet - hiding away in the burrow... i'm hoping that it'll liven up tonight !

i'll keep ya posted !!
