I think this post just made me pull the trigger on my FearNot cart...2 of each, Diamondback, Tamaulipas, and Bosque Primavera. Or that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

I don't blame you. That's where I got my Diamondbacks. Rrrrreeeaaallllyyy eyeing those Tamaulipas too. Lol Fuzzy Aphonopelma? Sold. Treat yo self... Do it.

If you don't have an A Seemanni you need one of those too haha, so gentle and awesome
Very common. Very beautiful. Everyone should have one. Definitely holding out for a confirmed female though, just because of how easy they are to find.

When I was a teenager they were selling a mature A. Seemanni at my local big box pet store and I was infatuated. Though I couldn't buy it at the time it was one of the coolest spiders I thought I had ever seen. This species definitely holds a unique place in my heart and will pounce on a young confirmed female when I get the chance.

So many female A. Chalcodes around, why you not give me A. Seemanni!? Lol

Matt I also love Mavis so if you’re going to make more of Mavis please put me down on the list thank you <3
she's a beauty and a sweetie. The first pic was the day we met her. We think she had been displaced from the construction of our velodrome. (see the banking on the background) People were kind of freaking out so we just got her out safely and adopted.
Yes, I will keep you both in mind if I get a Sac.

While I don’t have plans to collect all of any genus, I do have an appreciation for Aphonopelma and would love to add some additional species to my collection once I’ve space. Actually, as I’m in the process of rehousing slings that have outgrown their enclosures (it does happen, eventually  ), I’m thinking I should look to sell or trade more of my A. chalcodes, A. gabeli and A. hentzi slings.

My current Aphonopelma collection:
0.2.24 A. chalcodes
0.0.4 A. gabeli
0.0.3 A. hentzi
0.0.3 A. marxi
1.2.0 A. moderatum
0.1.0 A. saguaro
0.1.0 unidentified from New Mexico

My first Aphonopelma, an A. chalcodes bought as an adult in 2016. I think she is captive-bred and now 13 years old in total. She is a beautiful T and has a wonderful temperament, very calm.

My second A. chalcodes female and mother of my slings. She is wild-caught and much more defensive/skittish than my other female. She was mature when I got her in 2017 but did not reach full size until her molt in 2019. I just love her coloring!

One of my 3-year-old A. chalcodes slings, recently molted. I am sure they are much smaller than their siblings I traded/sold years ago as mine fast for several months over the winter. Because Aphonopelma do not grow slowly enough anyway!

A. gabeli I obtained as 2i in 2016.

A. hentzi, captive-bred

A. marxi I obtained as 3i in 2016. They are such feisty little tarantulas, they crack me up with their posturing!

The smaller of my A. moderatum females, but looking like she might be in pre-molt. My larger female which I’ve had four years now has become quite defensive and commenced major excavation projects around her enclosure. I would think she was gravid if I didn’t know that to be impossible, but possibly she does not know that... I do hope to breed this species once my male matures.

A. saguaro female out and about (pardon the window reflection). Although she will dart into her burrow at any disturbance, she is usually at the entrance or even roaming about and has become a voracious hunter since settling in! I suspect they may only get a few months of abundant food and water in their native habitat and must hole-up to avoid heat and dehydration the rest of the year.

My unknown Aphonopelma that I bought at an expo in 2016 for it’s lovely gray. She has molted two or three times since then and is now looking much more blonde than gray but she has grown no larger. Her temperament is non-defensive but she is generally a very shy eater.

Added adult female A. Seemanni and A. Hentzi since my last post. Next one in my sights is A. Gabeli. Still a must have as far as I am concerned. Ordered a confirmed female A. Moderatum a month ago, but it was DOA. Really broke my heart even with a refund.

Aphonopelma march on!
