I've successfully bred a species of Myrmecophilus, apparently a first for the hobby. :) Keeping them in a plastic jar filled with old potting soil, with small bark pieces and chips layered on top of each other and buried a bit in more potting soil, flake soil, rotted grain husks and crushed oak wood, so they have lots of tiny caverns to hide in, (much like an ant colony). In addition to the edible matter in the substrate, they're being fed unmedicated chick feed and apple slices. I'm keeping the jar in a cool, dark place, they are quite photosensitive.

Here are some pictures, one of my original WC large nymphs:

Adult male, (with small silver springtail for scale):

And a CB hatchling, (could only get a couple ventral shots of it against the plastic):

The hatchlings seem to be doing well, are fattening up quite a bit, and some may have molted already. I added some additional hides in the form of corrugated cardboard pieces, which they seem to love hiding in. Fingers crossed I can rear these babies to adulthood successfully!

Thanks, always fun to be the first to breed something, even if it is an obscure little species few have attempted to breed. 😅

Well you’re paving the way!! And showing people about an obscure species so it’s cool regardless to me!
Thanks, at least this is a successful project, unlike my sun spider one...
Not an uncommon event with these guys! where did they start to die off on you?

Yeah, so hey if we ever find a metallic ant cricket species that everyone wants, we'll have something to base their care off of! 😂

Yeah was honestly expecting the Solifugid project to fail, I mean everyone else's has... Still have one L2 though! 😂 I lost a lot due to cannibalism, despite what I've heard they were pretty cannibalistic, and the rest seem to have died due to a combination of overfeeding and keeping them a little too humid...

well you were up against it from the start! But any data is good data! Even fails teach us! Maybe one day collectively on here we will figure out the solifugid conundrum! Are you planning to try again?

Yup, failure can be just as good a teacher as success TBH! Gonna be updating that thread once I've got all my data compiled, wanna see if this last one molts to L3 or not first...
Probably won't try again for a while, at least until next year when I can find adults again.

You'll have to send me a couple of these for uh, ID purposes ;) Probably have a key for these laying around somewhere...

Haha I'll keep you in mind if I ever have them available, these things are slow growing and not very prolific though, so it might be a while until I can get a big culture established...
And I was sent a key to the species in the US, but never was able to check the number of spines on the legs of the adults to confirm species before they died, couldn't be bothered to look for something so tiny on an already tiny (and fast moving) animal... 😂 manni is probably the only species in ID anyways.

Yeah I was wondering how counting those spines went lol. You're probably right on it anyway :)
