Found this guy in the woods today. Those pincers you see in the second picture work. You can see where it bit me a little to the right of the beetle.

I caught one of those this week camping, the amount of force they exert 'clicking' is amazing.
I can't believe it bit you! We can't all be bug-whisperers, I guess.

That pic gives me a nostalgic feeling. The last time I saw one of those was as a boy playing at my grandparents in Alabama. They seemed huge back then. :)

very cool beetle! we have those down here in fla. aswell,but not common though.(way too much building going on)

Nice find! Once again, I'm jealous from Oregon's boring selection of native inverts. :clap:

I've seen little click beetles somewhere (maybe here, maybe northern California), but nothing that big.
