Water dish will allay all concerns about humidity, how much of the substrate to wet, how often/where to mist etc. I cut down a water bottle cap that has a little raised ring on it. to make a tiny water dish. It's essentially a long lasting water drop. If you think water dish would help- get creative with water dishes. Anything of appropriate size and holds water will do the job. Also tarantulas cannot drown so that's not a concern.

This sling of different species is way smaller(can just barely see it above the dish) than your 1/2" pulchra. That's a trimmed down water bottle cap in middle.

pic of cap- it's the ring in the middle I use as dish for the tiny slings. Larger slings and small juveniles get the whole cap:

Coco fiber is a commonly used substrate. Great for dry, semi moist or moist setups.

I think I'll fill it up with some Eco Earth a little bit more so there's no chance of a hemorrhage, and put a bunch of hides so it feels alright
EcoEarth is great, but pricey... I use plain garden topsoil, especially to fill up a 10g to the proper height. It will take more sub than you think!!

This is how I keep my Grammostola pulchra slings.

I initially got them as 1/4” slings. They were so tiny so I kept them in vials. This was 05/07/2018.

I rehoused them into a bit larger enclosure after both slings molted three times. This was 08/10/2018.

One more molt after, I decided to keep them in much larger enclosure. This was 08/24/2018.

I mix Eco Earth with vermiculite so it doesn't get too fluffy and if the spider wants to Tunnel it can without too much danger of collapses. Also, I think it helps balance out the moisture level. Eco Earth on its own can have a hard time absorbing moisture evenly. I don't care for those flash floods you can get when trying to get moisture into the substrate.

Are those tattoo ink bowls you are using as water bowls in the last two photos? If not, what are they? They are a great size!

What kind of vermiculite do you use? Would this work? And is there any other prep you have to do with it before putting it in the enclosure? What’s the ratio you use?

Those were included when I bought enclosurs with Jamie’s Tarantula.

Excellent well, as the Bard would say... if he were into tarantulas, which he would be if he were around today.

An appropriately sized Sterilite tub with ventilation holes would be better, and cheaper!
Why "better?" I have a T that came in a tub and I hate it... the plastic is opaque, so you can only see an outline of the spider. The top is sloped in such a way that you cannot stack them. I just find this push for using opaque plastic bins for display animals to be a bit odd.

By better I meant just cheaper and could be completed (vs drilling holes in acrylic) more quickly. This and you’re able to control the ventilation more (soldering holes in the side).

Fair enough.

I'm also one of those terrible people who doesn't change my lids out for acrylic, so... lol

Also, just to add to it, there are plastic tubs that are clear (at The Container Store) that are stackable as well for adult T’s.

Just to mention it: All my larger spiders are in something similar to 10 gallon terras. I like them to have the extra space even if it's not strictly necessary and not all of them use it, but especially G. pulchras can be very active little bulldozers, so...
