Pros
  • bugs are alive
  • prices are good
  • seller communicated well prior to shipping
Cons
  • package did not indicate what was inside
  • deli cups were not taped closed
  • box was shipped in an almost fully sealed plastic bag
  • no air ventilation in shipping box
i have bought inverts from other sellers, i do my research just like i did with bugsincyberspace and i didn't find anything bad about this seller so i went ahead and placed an order for a millipede and a nymph giant Asian mantis, seller reached out to me to ask where i wanted them to hold my package which i appreciated. i got up this morning and went to get it from Fedex since I did a 5 day hold and it was delivered this morning. i give the clerk my last name and the last 4 of the tracking number and she comes back out with a SEALED PLASTIC SHIPPING BAG, mildly horrified I told her there were bugs in there and she looked confused and said there wasn't anything on the box that said that, i finished up and went outside i immediately opened the bag scared that since they had very little air they died, i opened the shipping bag to find the box sealed everywhere with packing tape, the box also had no ventilation holes and as i stated nothing on any of the packaging said that there were these little creatures in here.
i got home and also discovered that other than the lid there was nothing actually keeping the cups sealed, the lid on the mantis was starting to come off. I've only seen 2 other reviews highlighting this issue but the other ones say that the packaging was great. I was so upset that they were shipped like this. they are alive i was surprised to see i got 2 millipedes i thought i had only purchased 1

1. No bad reviews in 27 years.
2. I emailed about hold location.
3. They didn't pick their package up for 5 extra days? Cringe.
4. Shipping bag, box inside. Seams taped up. True. 2 responsible levels of protection and escape prevention. Don't damage a box with holes before it ships.
5. After 19 years of working at UPS we never mark the box about the contents. Box that gets there the quickest doesn't get set aside in hot/cold, or shaken by employees for fun. Many people in apartments, etc. want discretion.
6. Arthropods don't breathe like we do. Shipped and received thousands of pkgs. Holes in external cartons are unnecessary.
7. Mantises stick really well to tape. Owned mantidforum for many years and would never advocate the taping down of mantis lids.
8. mantis lid was starting to come up. Maybe true, but the mantis was surrounded by the packing paper we wrap around them so the lids can't pop off. Plenty of outer cartons.
9. Last point she makes is she got a free, extra millipede
