Umm what is this? It no fly

Theopropus elegans (L4 I think) with first waxworm, wasn’t interested lol
@MrGhostMantis it all depends on the species tbh if you want Phidippus Regius (also called Regal Jumping spiders) All they need is I guess what you’d keep an arboreal sling in to start with and maybe move on to a 1.5L then 3L Braplast tub on its side or they do sell specialist jumping spider enclosures which really are just a small arboreal T set up really high with lots of ventilation. The main thing is they need an enclosure thats not top opening cos they build a hammock at the top to sleep in, besides that they just need a bit of cork bark, some fake plants and some twigs. Not everyone uses substrate with Regius although I have a small layer of spider life with some spring tails in so I disturb them less. Regius are fine at room temperature (as long as you’re comfortable they are kinda thing) and need a mist of water every 2 days, then feed fruit flies every 2 days when young slings and move up to feeding them green bottles every 3 days and then weekly on a blue bottle flies as adults or wax moths. They’re also super cute and it helps they have the same diet as the mantids so I don’t need multiple cultures.

My P. Adumbratus need a bit higher humidity and Temp but even then its just sphagnum moss added and substrate with vermiculite a daily mist of water to that usually keeps the humidity high enough. This species like to hunt on the bottom of their enclosure and sleep on the corkbark. Also I just have them next to a 10w heat mat so pretty easy really. The hardest ones are Hyllus Diardi as they need 80% humidity and around 25-30C I’ve heard conflicting temperatures tbh, plus they need a lot of height compared to regius I had my 6mm sling in a 1L deli cup and tbh that was probably too small and was gonna move them to a 1.5L Braplast on its side. They also stress super easily and are really fragile as slings. The only sling I’ve lost so far has been a Hyllus and tbh I suspect they where over stressed in transit and some said 3rd instar was too young to sell as many sell at 4th to start.

Most people start with P. Regius (Regal jumpers) or P. Audax (Bold jumpers) as they’re an easy size to keep.

My mantids atm are all nymphs atm and range from L2 - L5 lol as I said I’m super new to having them.

@MrGhostMantis Oh my mantids have come from Unseen Universe, Mantis Mayhem, Mantis Den and BugzUK. Tbh if you’re somewhere warmer you may find keeping jumpers easier You probably have some outside where you live as a few of the species I have are native to the USA and California in particular.

Ask away if you have any questions. Someone else who will happily answer your questions is @mantisfan101 for he is where I learned most of what I know. Do you have many mantis sp. in the UK?

Yeah, we have the California mantis, Chinese mantis, Arizona mantis, Carolina mantis, and the European mantis in CA.

We also have some magnificent piers too. Just yesterday I found a 5cm brown tarantula. Don’t know the species but it was awesome to see.

Ouch, that’s pretty sad. I would really miss having mantids around lol. They are so funny and curious. I would recommend to go with some US natives next time you are looking for mantises or possibly a Chinese because they have very easy care.

Do you have any interests in tarantulas? If so what species. Also how did you set up you mantis enclosures?
