Not So 'grossa' After All

How can this be? This is a Grammostola grossa mature male. How can he be mature at such a small size? This is ridiculous - he isn't that much bigger than my Homoeomma chilensis mature male.
I thought I had a long time before this boy matured.
Lol, this iheringi borned in captivity is a mistery, actually.

In situ, there are a few registers of mature males that can reach +9" (about 23cm). Individuals that born in captivity, however, are known to get about 6", 7" (17cm more or less), no really no why they get smaller, but it happens.
Yours is smaller than the average size but yet, it can happen too.

Also, there's something I don't tell often to people cause the genus is already a mess, and this can be more confusing, besides, I don't remember the whole details, lol. But here it goes:
There are 2 or 3 individuals from different localities that were spread in the hobby as "G. grossa", obviously, when the whole G. iheringi mess came up, all these individuals were also considered to be G. iheringi when in fact, due to their different locations, they can be different species, as so many issues this genus have, there are no confirmation yet but visually, they are different in sizes and colors. Last, the uruguayan G. iheringi could be different from the brazilian one, and they both were as spread as G. grossa in pet trade too so, yes, I believe our grandchildren maybe will know. Hahahhaha

I was hoping I had longer, because I have a female who is at about the 4" mark and I was hoping to pair them. She hasn't moulted in 18 months, so I am hoping that she does soon and I can still pair them.
I have read that females get to about 5.5", and she is already 4"+, which would make her 75%+ of her full size.
It might still work out.

They can actually get bigger, but like cold blood said, sometimes they get smaller.
I have 2 immature males, got them as slings in 2014, still not mature, but they are pretty small in comparison to others so, I believe they will mature smaller than others too.

By 4" your female should be mature.

I have a very high success rate with young females.

Good luck, hope your female molts real soon.

I'm over 71" tall and have more than 54 years, but I have still not matured. There is still some hope thought... :)
