G. rosea sling thinking it's an aboreal. The black stick near it is a part of a thermometer & hygrometer. I think it's just trying to get closer to the communal heat pad. Sorry pal! Not getting any closer.
@Toxoderidae
Why the heatpad? Because it's not the same temp everywhere in the world as where you are right now and I haven't mastered reading the temperature based on the resonance of a cicada's hum quite yet.
@ToxoderidaeIt's cold as hell in my house. I put a heat pad on the wall vertically behind them. Not under them. Hence why it is ON THE WALL. Can you see a heatpad attached to the wall where it's sitting?
It's an enclosed space and the heatpad heats it evenly.
@Toxoderidae
>or at the very least, hook it up to a thermostat
Got a thermostat
>38 degrees - My heatpad. which sits stuck to the backwall of the place the vivs are sits at 22 degrees flat and has a thermostat
>"unless you live in Antarctica there's so need for a thermostat"
Whoever wrote this obviously doesn't know how cold it gets inside my house during the cold seasons. We don't have heating nor a fireplace. We have to sleep using several duvets and even then, wearing a sweater and gloves.
I've done plenty of independent research. Forums, books, websites dedicated to the keeping of tarantulas, care sheets and university studies. I've based my temps on the data take from them (though to be frank, the don't differ much) My temps for my ts stay at what what is considered right by 99% of media. For example, my G. rosea's viv ranges from 20 - 25 during the summer and about 17 - 20 during the colder seasons with the aid of the heatpad for the area where I keep them. Without it, it'd be about -6 degrees to 2 inside the house at night. maybe 6 - 7 degrees during the day.
"The average temperatures at Antofagasta range from 18° to 23°C (64° to 74°F) in January and from 12° to 16°C (53° to 62°F) in July. In Santiago the average range is 12° to 29°C (54° to 85°F) in January and 3° to 15°C (38° to 58°F) in July. Temp/humidity: 65°-80°F (18.3-26.6C) /55%-65% humidity. I keep this species temperature at 78° (25.5°C) degrees and the humidity at 60-65%. "

Haven't had any sudden deaths yet. All my ts are thriving. You'll be the first to know though if something happens I promise. I'm getting some avics soon so if I experience some S.A.D I'll tell you and you can tell it me it was surely the mat!
