Emperor scorpion juvenile female

She's probably my most handleable invert. She's very chill and sometimes even comes out on her own. I can easily see why this is usually recommended to someone getting their first invert, and I can stand behind such a recommendation.
Those are incredible rare to find in the U.S. I remember back in the 80's they were abundant and most pet shops had them, now extremely rare.
They've become harder to find for sure, which is why I'm going to breed them. This is a juvenile female, and I'll get a male soon. I genuinely think that this is one of the best pet scorpions, if not the best one, and it's absolutely important to establish a strong captive population. The fact that they were so easy to find and cheap is why a lot of people didn't think to breed them since they'd be competing with a ton of cheap imports (and now cheap imports don't exist no more).

we have seen a huge up-tick of posts about newly aquired P. imperator scorpions recently, did a massive shipment hit petstores all over the US or whats going on right now?

Good luck, i hope you guys manage to build up some CB populations.

They were put on the CITES list which is why the emperor scorpion is rare.

This article had some good pointers

I think they allowed one shipment or something. At least that's my theory, but the scorpions will still be tricky to get a hold of in the long run. Which is why a CB population is a must. I mean they're not even that hard to breed. I've already done it once a few years ago, but then the female I had died of old age.

That's pretty much it. Well if the main supply of any sp is cheap imports then it won't be abundant for long. Same thing happened with G rosea, except I don't really care about G rosea much.

Yeah
I couldn't remember why the Emperor scorpion vanished. I just did a quick search and that link was the first one to spring up.

I still remember what pet stores were charging for them back in the 80's which is amazing as I can't remember much anymore. They were going for $19.99 back then.

Yeah that's exactly why they weren't bred in captivity. I mean if they're selling for 20 bucks retail, then you'd be lucky to get 5 to 10 bucks per scorpling when selling the brood in bulk. That's just not worth the trouble to most people.

That definitely explains it. That was still considered reasonably priced in the 80's. I loved looking at them back then when I saw them at the store. As I had severe arachnophobia back then I would never have bought one lol. The movie industry used the Emperor scorpion in a lot of movies. Majority of people didn't know anything about them so most thought they had death inducing venom, thanks to Hollywood.
