These are grass spiders and weave flat webs with a funnel off to the side and very common where I live. In the morning, their numerous dew-bedecked webs are everywhere in the grass. This spider chose the more dramatic local of a hollow left by a tree.
I wish I could have gotten a closer shot, but between my iPhone's auto-focus and the spider scurrying back into its retreat at the slightest disturbance, this was the best I could get.
