    Help me choose.

I have both as slings and your decision should really depend on what you expect out of the animals. The GBB is much easier to feed. It is a voracious predator that will hunt down prey. Drop and forget. The CV is very picky. I have to feed it fruit flies. It won’t eat anything else. Not prekilled...

Which Is the Best Tarantula for the Beginners?

    B. Albopilosum is the one that I chose to get back into the hobby some months back. The slings are cheap, the spider is quite active and has a great feeding response. It is also quite docile, although with all Tarantulas, do not handle the animal.

    My first T

I have had my GBB sling for a few months. Got back into the hobby with one. Great spider to watch grow. Mine has grown quite a bit and is very chill.

Newbie keeper with a c. Versicolor

I usually release a swarm of about 7-10 into the enclosure. They are gone by the next day. I have seen it grab multiples because they are like gnats I usually release about 10 inside the enclosure for it to hunt down. I’ve seen it take 3 at at time. They are like gnats even to the sling. Gone...

Newbie keeper with a c. Versicolor

My Versicolor Sling is that size. If yours eats crickets, consider yourself lucky. Mine only eats flightless fruit flies. It loves it when I release a small swarm of them into it’s enclosure to hunt down one by one!

First sling might not make it...

If it were me in that situation, I would try to rub the white spot with a warm water q tip just in case, then try to give it some water.

First sling might not make it...

I’m sorry I didn’t see the curled up front legs due to the substrate color and the size of the pic on my telephone.

Looks like you may have a pre molt on your hands to me. My B. Hamorii sling is in pre molt and stands exactly like that.

On Tarantula Psychology: Consciousness vs Autonomy

There have been theories brought up in recent years regarding that the spinal nerve column may have a very important role in human consciousness itself and that the brain may be have less importantance than previously thought. There is something to that ‘bundle and jumble’ of nerves. We already...

On Tarantula Psychology: Consciousness vs Autonomy

What a great topic! I read all the posts and then found all of the old threads and read through them as well. From my experiences in life most of the population has a very closed view of how conscious life should be. It’s not until one has an experience that takes the blinders off-in a few...

New school and Old school hobbyists why the divide in some places?

When I was a teenager in the 1990’s I owned a B. Smithi. I had repurposed a 20 gallon fish tank and knew nothing about the species aside from it was from Mexico, and you fed it crickets and kept a water dish with a sponge. Sometimes you adapted a snake hide for it to use. Little did I know that...

Effects of urticating hairs on prey items

I encountered it again with my A Genic sling yesterday where I placed two small crickets into its enclosure about 30 mins apart. It had dropped the first one and went over and picked it back up and kicked hairs at the second. The cricket definitely slowed down from crawling around and seemed...

Effects of urticating hairs on prey items

I have observed my B. Hamorii sling kick hairs at small cricket prey items and they trend to go into a swaying motion when inside the area. It doesn’t seem to last very long before the prey goes back to normal. What have you witnessed from prey items being affected by urticating hairs?

Too soon to jump to an arboreal?

I’ve tried that with roaches and headless mealworms, but they never get touched. I end up having to either throw them away or feed another one of my slings with it. My B. Hamorii sling loves day old dead mealworms from enclosure 4. :-)

Too soon to jump to an arboreal?

I got a Carabena Versicolor sling as my fourth sling recently. My first arboreal T. Set up the enclosure so the cork hangs from the top. There is a gap between the cork bark and the floor about an inch or so. The issue is that the sling doesn’t notice feeders on the floor at all. So, then I try...

Curious about B. Albo moult frequency.

Thanks for the reply! I guess I will wait and see. It’s normally my best eater, so I’m sure that it’ll be ready in the next week or so.
