Considering I've yet to own a tarantula (and probably won't anytime soon), here is my top 5 "If money was no object and I had the experience/space/resources to care for these":

1. Brachypelma hamorii
2. Aphonopelma seemani
3. Brachypelma auratum
4. Grammostola pulchripes
5. Tliltocatl albopilosus

A boring "baby's first tarantulas" list in comparison to others, I'm sure. But naturally, I have no desire to own anything in the near or far future that I wouldn't be completely confident in taking on.

maybe it's the wrong thread to not raise the urge to buy this species - the intention would be more to showcase the species and educate about their habitat loss and the importance of conservation. Nevertheless, I hope you can appreciate this tarantula as much as I do

From a stateside perspective, even if there is an urge to buy T. costae, I don't think anyone is going to risk an import seizure or the associated legal problems after the T. seladonia debacle. It's a pretty high risk, low reward scenario. Beautiful spider nonetheless, but I'm quite sure I'll never have one in my collection. Since this thread has been revived, I think I should probably give my current top five desired species lol.

  1. Stromatopelma cf satanas
  2. Psalmopeous sp Alquitran
  3. Poecilotheria ornata (ESA makes this almost impossible for me)
  4. Homoeomma chilensis
  5. Cyriopagopus doriae

I’m fortunate to have confirmed females of most of my favorite species, just waiting to see if one of my B. klaasi slings is female!

There are additional species I would love to add someday when I have space:

1) Poecilotheria spp., esp. P. miranda
I’d love to eventually have most of the Poecilotheria species if I am able to breed them. I love these spiders and want to contribute to ensuring we maintain a healthy captive-bred population in the hobby.

2) Grammostola pulchra
My husband appreciates our tarantulas, but leaves it up to me what we get and I take care of them, but today he said he’d like to have a solid black tarantula so I’m happy to add this one to the list!

3) Homoeomma chilensis
Such a charismatic tarantula, but even slower growing than Aphonopelma! Someday...

I’ve long admired several vivid blue terrestrial species, but I’d need to research which if any are actually out to be seen on occasion as I think most are fossorial.
