You've already mentioned it (out of its mediocrity) but I absolutely loved Eight Legged Freaks when I was a child, watched it at least a dozen times! Nowadays I see the flaws, pretty corny movie, but as a child, I thought it was the greatest thing ever. It was when I learned I really like spiders. Besides that, I actually haven't seen too many Arachnid related movie, although recently I watched a made-for-tv movie called In The Spider Web(2007) which was, kind of dumb, to say the least, but they used all real species of T's, namely what looks like Cyriopagopus or some other Asian species, and some others like Grammostola, Brachypelma species.. They also utilize molts in one scene, as it is about college students traveling to South America for hiking, but end up finding a village that worships spiders, and believe the molts protect them from the spiders. That's about all I remember, like I said not the best movie in it's details, but I found the use of real, less common species of T's to be cool. Also no spiders get harmed on screen, which is cool. If you don't mind watching campy, kind of cheesy flicks, check it out.

not really a fan of films that fuels the fears of these creatures and perpetuates the fears that leads to their killing.
Of all of them 1955 Tarantula, because that was a giant one, and it was the 50s so I give it some slack

'Kiss of The Tarantula' was so ridiculous I fast forwarded stopping at certain points. They made these T's like their venom killed you in seconds. The girl that kept them all I was laughing hysterically because the T's were in small cages like in cages with bars like a little jail cell. Anyways it was a good laugh.

'Earth vs The Spider' was entertaining and stupid at the same time. The sound the giant tarantula made makes for a good laugh.

'8 Legged Freaks' most of you know. It was mean't at least to me a comedy horror and I did enjoy it. What makes this movie ironic for me is I watched this years ago when I used to have severe arachnophobia and thought the old guy in the beginning was a nutbag that kept all these tarantulas. Yet here I am that old guy with a bunch of tarantulas.

'Kingdom of The Spiders' with William Shatner was entertaining and ridiculous at the same time.

'Spiders' from 2000 was actually entertaining.

'Arachnid' 2001 was a great horror movie and one I recommend.

Mine are Arachnophobia and Eight-Legged Freaks. The latter is totally just a guilty pleasure, although the acting isn't horrible. I love the noises the spiders make lol.

It's a shame, though perhaps inevitable, that spider movies tend to be B movie horror flicks. I guess Arachnophobia was a partial exception, being more of a non-B movie horror film. I like a good horror film but it's not my favourite genre. Only film I've seen of the ones mentioned is Arachnophobia, though Eight Legged Freaks does look fun.

I'm just going to cheat and say The Return of the King, for obvious Shelob-related reasons.

None. The movies with tarantulas in them encourage and reinforce fear/negativity about these animals from the audience. Haven't even seen a movie where I walked away going "Yeah, that was really good. I bet a lot of people will look at tarantulas in a positive light now. It might make people more interested and informed about them."

Agree. Tarantula movies are all about how big and scary spiders are, they don't do any actual good for their reputations.

If anyone is interested in an isopod movie......"The Bay" is really, really good. Kind of a found footage montage movie. Really unsettling and has an "infection" theme that's extra creepy in these pandemic-stricken times. Quality horror.

...and yet I like the films with my ability to differentiate between reality and fiction! 😉

Well yeah lol we know it's fiction. I can unfortunately guarantee that people have seen Arachnophobia and walked away thinking there are spiders that can drain your blood in an instant, or whatever insane thing it is the spiders in that movie do.

I just want to point out that the ONLY way to watch "The Giant Spider Invasion" is watching the Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment. Seriously. Track it down if you have not seen it.

Okay, since I am a swell guy, I sought out the movie. It is on you tube. Now,the into and opening sketch lasts about 5 minutes, but then they go to the movie.

For those not familiar with the show, a human and his robot companions are subjected to bad movies, as an experiment by a mad scientist trying to test their ability to cope with dreadfully awful B-movies.. They cope with this by making comedic commentary throughout the presentation. zI'm sure this episode must have been posted here before, but right now I'm a bit too lazy to search for it. For all I know, I could have presented it before, myself.

One thing to keep in mind, especially for younger viewers, is that some of the pop-culture references might fly over your heads. Anyway, it can be pretty entertaining regardless. Give it a shot.

Is it wrong that I feel sad for the mommy spider in Arachnophobia?
Being chucked into a malfunctioning electrical panel can't feel too good. But the General had it worse, being on fire and nail gunned to all your progeny, burning them altogether ? Ouch !
