Ok, something funky is growing in my seemanni's tank under the log. I took a pic (and proptly dug it out).

Any idea what the hell it is? Also, what can I use as a natural-looking hide that won't grow s*** after just a few months? These logs I got suck!

Looks like it's something that you may have to chnge with fresh potting soil. Just throw the whole substrate out and put fresh substrate in is my suggestion.

It looks like mycelium, very rhizomorphic too....its a fungus growing. To be safe toss the substrate and replace it with new stuff.

Well, I'm not a wood specialist (;P ) but I think that's what I got. I dunno...I'm off to the pet shop in the morn for an alternative. Now I'm using a "modified" gladware container so she has a place to hide if need be.

Question though: she's been out of (what was) her burrow for over a month. Could she have known this stuff was growing before it was large enough for me to see, and thus abandoned her home?

do you ever 'turn' your soil? i keep reptiles and the ones that have humid habitats, i always have to turn up the soil now and again to prevent mold from growing. that might help in the future as well for you. :)

humidity can naturally cause issues like that, just something to keep in mind, regardless of the hide.

I use a half of a peat pot and peat as a substrate for my seemani.
I keep it dry, no misting or anything. The T takes the substrate over to the water dish to get it wet and starts packing it to make
a burrow.
When I first set this T up in its home I had the substrate moist
and had mold problems.:eek: Since I let it use the water on its own we do not have anymore disgusting mold.
I find it odd that I did have mold because this T is in a critter
keeper and they have a vented top:confused: and I also have
a fan in the room that runs 24/7:confused:

If you do what I did you will be filling the water bowl every day.
You may even have to give him another bowl, because it may get
lost in the substrate!=D
