I also have feral cats so I don't use anything that can harm them.

I also try not to use pesticides. I have a brown widow that has been chilling in my garden do 8 months and I think is going to produce eggs soon. I can’t call it a pet but it stays in my garden and eats all the flies that attack my pepper plants.

Is a brown widow the same as a black widow except for color?

Brown widow is a separate species. It can be confusing to talk about them with common names because several different Latrodectus species are called "black widow", but "brown widow" always refers specifically to Latrodectus geometricus.

There is tons of different widows. The main ones are western, southern, brown, and then the false ones that are not true widows. Sorry but it’s hard for me to keep track of scientific names. The species I keep have theirs written down but it’s hard for me to memorize them.

I had a beautiful mottled tan and brown widow (red hour-glass) by my back door last year. I tried to find the pictures but they must have disappeared when I switched phones. I'd never seen one like that before or since.
