Will my T's be ok

I may soon have to move all of my tarantulas from a nice air-conditioned house into my room that I rent. The problem is I live in southern California and it gets Extremely hot during the summer. My house has no air-conditioning. It probably gets into the nineties in my room. I'm worried that if I move them here they will die from the heat but I might not have a choice ...Either move them or give them all to the person that's keeping them for me now. (That's hundreds of dollars worth of T's). :wall:

I don't know what to do. Would they be ok?

Here's what I have.

I love all my babies and don't want to give them up but I don't want to hurt any of them either. :wall:

Hi, i dont live anywhere near southern california, i live in ontario canada, but in the sumer it gets pretty hot here upwards into the high 80's and mid 90's, but the kicker here is the humidity it brings the temp up like a full 10 degrees. I dont really have ac either ut i have 3 windows in my room, that are always open, a celing fan that runs of high and a stationary fan that i keep going as well. So i think as long as it dosent get super hot like into the 100's and u have good air circulation you should e ok, and plus good air circulation will help ur t's ne way.... hope this helps

keep blinds closed windows open fans on and buy a small ac (5000 btu should be good enough for your room)

We're already gettin' the heat over 100 down here...... If you can manage to keep your room from getting above 95 you'll prolly be ok...... I am anyway.

Of course, depending on where you live out here it's gonna get a lot hotter....

Make sure they have a water bowl filed at ALL times, soak the strate daily. Forget about the potential for mold, you'll have to do this through the summer.

The hardest hit will be the smallest. A fan, small ac, a dehumidifyer and water will be your best bet. I had a hot summer last year, and did not lose a sole. This year we had 3 days into the high 90's and all my larger T's stayed on the wet strate or in water bowls.

Hmm.... i think they will all be ok with proper air circulation as stated above. A small AC would not hurt. Except for this one.... "1 2" B. boemi" I think i know what species you are referring to and if its the one im thinking of its Brachypelma boehmei. Unfortunately this species is native to Canada and Alaska areas and has to be kept on the cooler side, there is absolutely no way it will survive that kind of heat. Mid 60s and 70s is the absolute max for this species. However, i am willing to do you a favor. I will gladly take it off your hands for the price of shipping if you are interested. Around here in the summer it get over 115 degrees sometimes. My landlords have banned air-conditioners because they sky-rocket the electric bill and they'd have to raise everyone's rent. I have a small osculating fan that keeps the room a big cooler but I'm not sure by how much. Plus I'm gone a lot and I don't really want to leave it on all day. Maybe I can talk to them and see what they say. I'll just give them and extra bit every month to cover my bit of the electric bill.

Temps.

Most of my T's are in the 90's for 3 to 4 months out of the year or more, it's natural for that to happen in nature, a fan for moving air and a full water dish.
Their are not many sp. that can't handle this as long as they are not in the sun, keep your blinds/curtains closed. They should be fine with a good fan on the floor blowing up. Cool air drops/hot air goes up.

Just wondering if you have a basement and if that perhaps is a possiblity? Only bad thing with that will depend on how cool is stays. And do not over water the T's. As mold will grow faster. Just an FYI as I have seen. Have some in my basement and they are fine. But then again we are having cooler weather right now and it is just getting warmer. However I do have AC but keep some T's in the basement because I have some over flow of some species. All mine have taken the heat from the summer months here and I have never lost one due to the heat. I do use a fan, but only when we are home. Keep the water dishes full . Mist a bit more than usual. But this is again is a different region than your from. WEll hope all will be well with your T's. Good luck.......

you could probably buy 1 or 2 portable fans. That will keep it about 10-15 degrees cooler than the outside temp. Here in FL the max temp so far was 110 the day after it rainded so the humidity was crazy too. You literally couldnt walk outside withouht breaking a sweat.

I'm in the SF Bay Area in a crappy apartment with no AC. So I feel your pain. Here are some things you can do to help keep your place cool even without AC:

- Draw the shades. Keep out as much sunlight as possible
- Keep the lights off, but still switch to energy-efficient bulbs
- Unplug anything that generates heat (ever touch an AC adapter that's been plugged in for a while?)
- Set up box fans to provide cross-ventilation.
- Turn window fans OUTWARD during the evening, and INWARD at night. You can't do anything about the temp outside, so keep the heat out during the day, and during the night, blow it out and replace it with cool air.

You can also hack up your own makeshift AC unit by freezing gallons of water and setting them on a towel in front of your fans. This way, you're blowing ice-cold air around the room instead of just circulating hot air. I currently have this setup in my bedroom, and with the door closed, it's at least 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the aparment.

And remember, most of your T's come from regions of the world where temperatures in excess of 100 degrees aren't out of the ordinary. So long as you keep them properly hydrated, well-shaded, and manage their temps as best as you can, they should be fine.

Best of luck to you. This summer is already shaping up to be pretty brutal in this godforsaken state.

Could always invest in a unit to air condition your room that plugs into your wall and keeping it near your T' cages...maybe not necessarily right on them, but close to them. Cool down your room a little bit.

as long as they have water they should all be fine, but probably bets to get a fan for the room when its hot.

Most T's are not fragile little things .They mostly come from the hotter parts of the world. The thing you need to remeber is keep them hydrated!!! and out of direct sun.They all will do better than you in the heat.Your forest scorp will love the heat just keep it moist too.
